We recently connected with Kalondria Gregg and have shared our conversation below.
Kalondria, appreciate you joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
Sometimes I do wish I had started doing hair & attending cosmetology school as soon as i graduated high school some years back but I took a year off trying to find my purpose . Though I had always been an A/B student growing up, I knew going to college wasn’t for me. After trying to pursue a degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, transferring from one technical college to another, and life happening in general I knew it was only a matter of time before God had answered my prayers on what my purpose was, and is, in this lifetime. I’m a strong believer in God’s timing.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Kalondria ‘Kali’ Gregg , owner of The Kali Effect LLC. I specialize natural hair as well as hair extension services. I started doing hair back in May 2019. My very first client being my aunt. Back then I wasn’t taking hair as serious at the time. After many days of praying and trying to figure out what it is that I genuinely enjoyed doing, I knew for a fact I was not going to do something because everyone around me was doing it (as in obtaining a bachelor’s degree of some sort) I later realized that doing hair was what I wanted to pursue professionally. I had another family member suggest that I attend Cosmetology School. I enrolled in 2021 and that was the best decision I could’ve ever made.
One thing that I feel has set me apart is definitely the fact that throughout this entire journey I’ve honestly been walking with God. Entrepreneurship is hard but one thing I’ve never done was walk in fear because I have faith in myself and in my business. I’m most proud of the fact that giving up never has been and never will be an option for me. I’ll make things happen one way or another. The way I’ve shown up for 9-5’s is the way I promised to always show up for myself but better.
I believe one thing that’ll always help you feel better when your feeling down is getting our hair done. With that being said, when I do hair it isn’t about the money, it never was, it’s about the smiles and satisfaction I see on my clients faces. It’s about that confidence level that was at about a 5 or 6 when they walk in and a 10 when they walk out. In doing so I feel as though I’m being reassured in every moment that this is my gift and my purpose. Everyday I’m glad that I had taken my own route to success,

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative for me would be hearing people say that they’re proud of me and how much I inspire them. It’s nothing like one minute thinking no one is watching to later have a conversations with someone for them to acknowledge me and my growth and later supporting me and my craft.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Some videos that have impacted my entrepreneurial thinking would be Steve Harvey’s motivational videos & a book by Dr. Myles Munroe called “ The Principles and Power of Vision” highly recommend this book definitely a 10 out of 10.
