Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kalli Siamidou. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kalli , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Kalli and I am a dancer, choreographer, dance instructor, and a dance studio owner. I have been teaching dance since 2006 and have had the pleasure to teach individuals and groups of all ages. In 2020 I was given the time to structure Wedding Dance Vows, a business that focuses on crafting customized first dances for couples. “Every love story is unique, celebrate yours”. I am committed in creating the dream dance for each couple by including them in the process and offering them my choreographer skills and showing up with an open mind. Every couple imagines their dance in a very different way. Some want something simple, natural that won’t look choreographed. Some want a whole musical production to get their guests off their chairs. My goal every time is to show up in the studio and keep all possibilities in mind, to not choose from things that I personally like. My role is to create something they love so they can enjoy an extra special moment on their wedding day and also a very intimate process of creating a dance together, learning this new skill as a couple while wedding planning is getting more stressful by the day. I am very happy that all the couples I have worked with savored the process we got through together. They love their dance and celebrate it to the fullest, but they always talk to me about the lessons and their practice sessions and how much they learned from it.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I chose dance as my career path when I was 16. It was very clear to me that I don’t want to work in an office setting. I wanted to move and I wanted to have music around. A couple of years later I started teaching dance. This was another big love of mine. It was very fulfilling to be able to find the right words to describe movement and have passionate students move with me. This year it has been 17 years that I have been teaching dance. I wouldn’t change it for anything. Every time I go into the studio with my students I feel like I’m in a playground. I’m having fun, we’re making dances and everyone is happy for most of the time. Some techniques will require longer commitment or much more effort, but when the dancers achieve their goals it is a great feeling for both them and myself. I really love the choreography aspect of my work as well. Being able to listen to different music, close my eyes and see dancers move around and then make that reality is again something that reminds me a lot of my childhood play. I am committed in keeping that lifestyle for as long as I can. I want to keep imagining dances, making dances, teaching dances and dancing dances myself. I feel that this keeps my imagination alive, and my soul very happy.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
I think what I do is very unique in the wedding industry. My most happy clients are people that have searched for what I do online and came upon my website. I think the website is so clear that clients that show up in the consultations already know what I do and that is exactly what they are looking for. They also get to watch the gallery section where they can see the work that I have done in the past with couples. The other source have been the dances themselves. I have had couples that were guests in weddings of other clients. After watching their dance they reached out to me and asked me to create things with them as well. And lastly, word of mouth.
