We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kalle Legassey a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kalle, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Any time I recreate a client’s wedding bouquet as a painting it is a special moment, and ever project I cherish deeply. The bouquet, once held in the hands of the bride on her special day, becomes a symbol of enduring love and commitment that is hung in the home. The most meaningful ones to me are the ones years after the wedding given as an anniversary gift. Husbands come to me looking to create the most special piece for their wives. Hearing these people talk about their love and memories warms my heart to see such dedication to love. This artwork goes beyond mere visual appeal, encapsulating a moment rich with the history of devotion.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Kalle, I am 18 in my first year of college, from CT.
I create 3d Floral Art Paintings. It’s realistic flower arrangements that pop off the canvas.
I enjoyed painting when I was young but had so many hobbies and loved to take on everything and experience all that I could. I fell in love with gardening, growing both vegetables and flowers. In the future I’d love to have a flower farm, I am obsessed with the beauty and work that goes into growing flowers
I found a technique that combines both of my passions painting and floristry. Since then I have been working to share my work and create meaningful pieces for anyone that I encounter. Flowers hold special meaning to a lot of people, and I create bouquets that never die and can be enjoyed timelessly.
By nature, I have a strong work ethic and love to get the most out of every day. Each day is a blessing and I am proud to make time for all the things that I love. I am excited to continue this journey and grow my business.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
For most brides, the most common bouquet preservation are shadow boxes, resin work, or pressed frames. These must happen shortly after the wedding. These options are available to do DIY but can fail and leave brides without the preserved bouquet they were hoping for.
For my artwork, no actual flowers are required to complete it. All we need is a clear image of the bouquet, that’s it!
For people who threw out their bouquet or maybe these preservations weren’t readily available when they got married they are left without options, except for now.
Seeing people receive their wedding bouquets for their 25-year anniversary and how genuine and full of appreciation they are drives me to the mission of reaching as many brides as possible.
The reactions from my clients unveiling their bouquets drives me to connect with more people. Also, the general beauty of flowers is incredibly inspiring and a continued muse on my creative journey.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Originally I was selling wooden crafts such as tables and jewelry holders at local flea markets but… I soon realized it wasn’t for me. Like I said I have a lot of hobbies. Woodworking started off with my father and I working in the garage together and he was helping me to learn the skills and make the products to sell. It was great to bond with him and I will cherish that for years.
But after I few months of this, I realized I was always trying to pawn off the actual building to my dad and I just enjoyed burning and staining the wood. I could’ve continued down this path but wanted something more suited to my passions. Then I got back into painting, and shortly thereafter I started practicing my current 3D floral technique.
I’m glad I pivoted and created a business that I am thrilled to wake up and do daily.
