We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kalisha Wilson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kalisha , thanks for joining us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
The biggest risk I have taken for myself is starting my business with only 3 clients. I was in a place in my life where I was discouraged. Always wondering why I wasn’t in a further place in my life. After praying and asking God which way to go I was brought an opportunity to chase my dreams and start. I started with only one to two clients to the next week having no clients. Here today I speak a year later and I have a full clientele. It has definitely not been easy but with the support from my amazing partner, family, friends and clients none of this would be possible. I will say that while I am still not where I want to be business wise I know that I still have a lot to learn and so many more goals to reach. Bit I am truly proud of myself for taking the risk to get out there and chase something I am so passionate about and love doing!

My name is Kalisha and I am the owner of Waxx Aesthetics! I am a fully committed Esthetician focused on Full Body waxing, and Vajacial Treatments. I was inspired by my Esthetician from Georgia that this industry would be something she felt I’d sore in. Ever since then it was always in back of my mind. When I moved to Tennessee I was back and forth with myself with what I wanted to do with my life next. I never was more interested in being my own boss until I moved here. It took some conversations and planning and support from my partner to chase my dreams and I’m so glad I did. Here at WAXX Aesthetics I make sure to provide a safe place and environment for Every person that walks through my suite doors. I assist in solving skin concerns and provide overall luxury services because self care is important! I am extremely proud of myself for being that for hundreds of people I have serviced and I want every person to know that it’s important to love yourself so If getting your legs waxed, eyebrows done, or anything else you choose to do for yourself helps you feel better inside and out then do it! So with that, I always encourage my new and and returning clients to continue doing it for THEM and no one else. I hope that with learning more about me helps people understand me more. Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy I have learned within my business is to provide the same experience across the board. Providing the best experience when a client comes to their services. Because let’s just be real it can be intimidating and many are already nervous when getting personal waxing services as I provide. I do my best to always ensure that every single person understands that at Waxx Aesthetics is and will always be a comfortable, no judgement zone establishment. We take our clients very serious. Professionalism and Customer Service is our main priority. We also have been able to continue growing with the help of each client providing wonderful reviews of how their service has went. With over 70 google reviews it has helped drive more clientele to our establishment and we are so grateful.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I have found that the best way that I’ve found to keep in touch with our clients is with an amazing booking app we have and pay for each month. Vagaro allows me to see and reach out to clients after their services and helps keep track of returning clients and clients that are not so regular. I have also just purchased loyalty cards, which we are so stoked to implement for our loyal customers. With doing this, we are given opportunities that allow us to give back to our clients for returning and continuing supporting us. After filling up all holes on the loyalty cards, we are able to give back to them with discounts and incentives.
