We were lucky to catch up with Kali Ryan recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kali, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I currently work at a cat vet clinic, and a I had a lot of people who spoke about being service about boarding their cats. I realized that there is some real business in at home cat sitting. Therefore I started that service from working there as well as having an Instagram for my cats. I realized how many people want services like cat sitting from home because it’s a lot less stressful on the cats. For right now my business is just a side hustle, besides my full time job. I just started it to help others in my community and other cat lovers like me. I do see a lot of boarding options but not a lot of at home boarding options for cats. I noticed more people rather offer dog services than cat services. Therefore I felt that there was a need for me to offer services to people who needed it. I have done a lot of research about cats on my own time, to better myself as a cat parent. Therefore I set myself up to have a unique skill set to handle an at home cat sitting service. I decided on this because I know how much easier it is for people to let their cats stay at home, and I would do the same if I traveled.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got into the industry through various events here in Colorado Springs. My job helped me to gain more knowledge to start my business. I offer at home cat sitting services that include feedings, replenishing the water dishes, cleaning litter boxes, and brushing and grooming if the client wanted it.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
I think the most effective way to build my clientele is word or mouth as well as connecting with local and small businesses in town. I can reach more people through the business as well as get the word out about other businesses in return.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
I would have to say social media. So many people are on social media today and a lot of people use these platforms to discover new businesses and services.
