We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kalene Hoffmann. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kalene below.
Kalene, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today One of the most important things we can do as business owners is ensure that our customers feel appreciated. What’s something you’ve done or seen a business owner do to help a customer feel valued?
Our entire team at Bodybar Pilates does an amazing job making our members feel special. We intentionally celebrate class count milestones with milestone certificates, grip socks and instagram shout outs. In addition, we do our best to celebrate members birthdays and truly show each member how much they mean to us as a team.
Kalene, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Kalene Hoffmann. I entered the fitness industry after leaving the corporate world in my mid-20’s. I had a passion for helping others achieve the mental and physical transformation I experienced through movement. In my mid 30’s I found Pilates which opened my eyes to an entirely new form of movement. My body was no longer recovering and functioning the way it did in my 20’s but through Pilates I found a way to maintain my health and wellness goals through a slow, intentional form of movement that made my body thrive. After feeling the benefits of Pilates I wanted to bring this to our community so others could experience the same. I opened our first Bodybar Pilates in 2022 in Wichita, KS where I live, later purchasing Bodybar Pilates KC in summer of 2024. Our studio offers high intensity, low impact Reformer Pilates classes for all fitness levels, ages, genders, etc. We are an inclusive studio thriving to help our members reach their fitness goals. At Bodybar Pilates, your first class is free and we highly recommend everyone come try it.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
My business partner, Cassie, was my former Pilates Instructor. My husband and I took private Pilates classes with her for years with no intention of opening a Pilates studio. After the studio she was working at went through some obstacles, Cassie and I met to discuss what opening our own studio would look like. She took the leap, had faith in my vision and become our lead instructor at our Wichita studio in 2022. When presented with the opportunity to purchase the Bodybar Pilates KC location I immediately wanted to invite her on this venture. She has the knowledge and passion for teaching teachers to be there absolutely best and without good instructors we wouldn’t have a studio so it made sense. Cassie’s strengths are my weaknesses and vise versa making us great partners with the same goal in mind.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Community! Word of mouth is the absolute best referral and will grow your business faster than anything. Before opening Bodybar Pilates East Wichita, our team got out into the community offering mat pilates classes and networking. This helped get the word out about our studio. Once we opened we worked hard as a team to create an inclusive environment where all members felt welcomed and wanted to come. By doing so, our members started posting selfies and videos of them taking classes, they started inviting friends to come try a class with them and they authentically started sharing the word about Bodybar Pilates. This has been one of the best growth strategies for our business.
