We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kaleigh Wiese a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kaleigh, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a customer that you appreciate them?
Your ideal client is more than just an aspirational customer. When you can truly get into the mind of the buyer and understand how you can solve their problems… it allows incredible impact for conversion & connection with little time or effort leaving them raving about you and them feeling so seen and appreciated.
You may have an excellent offering, but if you are not tuned into the client’s needs and your own, you will feel drained, scattered and feeling like you are not on strong ground too.
One of the biggest recommendations for making clients feel seen and helping foster better client relationships is truly taking a leadership position in what you do and providing an experience that hand holds and predicts all of their needs.
Small personal acts go a long way as well – get to know what they enjoy and what makes them happy. You can then craft surprise and delight moments that wow them.
Kaleigh, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have been self employed 18 years, my whole entire career. I went to school to study visual communication and fell in love with being able to impact small businesses to help position them to stand out with their ideal audience and have balance in their personal lives.
In 2008 I got asked to brand a wedding and it opened the door to me helping small creative, event-based business owners with obtaining their dream businesses to serve couples getting married.
I consider myself an endless creator, visual branding educator, entrepreneur, and public speaker. My focus after all these years, remains on branding and providing resources + services to help companies showcase their uniqueness.
Through my work, I have been featured in The Huffington Post, The New York Times, Enterpreneur, Fortune, Martha Stewart Weddings, Grace Ormonde and has shared trends at Wedding Pro Workshops, Wedding MBA, CaterSource, WIPA and other niche creative workshops across the country offering tips for growing a small business through visual marketing.
Everyday, I help people across the world with strategic brand techniques through my one-on-one brand audits and consulting, free webinars and challenges. logo and website work and my private membership community Brand Magic Society.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
There are so many hacks to strengthening client relationships that creates an unforgettable experience that gets people to shout from the rooftops your strengths!
Things to keep in mind to strengthen and grow your clientele:
1. Know when someone is not “your client”
2. Be confident in your process and offerings
3. Set the narrative of your process and leadership
4. Make a client feel seen and heard
5. Educate on timelines and expectations
6. Provide resources and cheat sheets
7. Let clients be themselves, listen but lead
8. Keep it positive and solution focused having
planned for Plan B, C, D etc.
9. Keep your word, or better yet, over deliver
10. Guide every step of the way
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
When we are stretched thin, it is hard to keep a reputation and high morale we are proud of. Some of my recommendations for keeping your “cup full” and staying energized and focused are…
1. Slowing down, staying present and assessing each task frequently — beware of the “It’ll take me 5 minutes” mindset
2. Define your priorities & be realistic
3. Allow the client to know what communication time looks like
4. Learn to say no or offer alternatives
5. Plan timelines in advance around personal measures
6. Consider delegating to a contractor or team
