We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kaleigh Schofield. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kaleigh below.
Kaleigh, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Being a stay-at-home mom has been one of the biggest blessings of my life, but I also knew I wanted something that allowed me to express myself and chase my passions while still being present with my kids.
I’ve always loved fashion, creativity, and making things with my own hands—so starting a small business felt natural. My shop lets me bring those passions to life through custom apparel and boutique items that help others feel confident, cozy, and stylish.
More than that, my business is about family and freedom. It gives me the chance to contribute to our household while still being there for all the little everyday moments with my children. Every order, every design, and every package I send out carries a piece of that dream—proving that mamas can build something beautiful for themselves and their families. 💕

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
So I’m the owner and creator behind Emme Jazz Shop, a mama-owned small business named after my two boys, Emmett (“Emme”) and Jasper (“Jazz”). I started my shop as a stay-at-home mom who wanted to do more than just dream about fashion and creativity—I wanted to bring them to life while still being present for my family.
I’ve always had a love for fashion, design, and creating things by hand. That passion led me to start my business, where I offer a mix of custom-made apparel, boutique clothing, and unique graphic designs. From trendy seasonal shirts and tumblers to boutique pieces like jeans, jackets, and cozy staples, everything I sell is thoughtfully curated or personally designed to give my customers something that feels special.
What sets my shop apart is the personal touch. Every order is made and packaged with care, and I pride myself on creating items that help people feel stylish, confident, and seen. Whether it’s a custom tee for a holiday, a tumbler that makes your morning coffee feel extra fun, or a boutique outfit that makes you feel put together, my goal is to make life a little brighter and easier.
I think the biggest “problem” I solve for my customers is making style simple and meaningful—you don’t have to shop big box stores to find something cute, personal, or on-trend. I bring fashion, creativity, and convenience straight to your hands, while making sure my products have heart behind them.
I’m most proud of how this business allows me to balance motherhood and entrepreneurship. Every sale reminds me that I’m building something not only for myself, but also to show my kids that it’s possible to chase your dreams, work hard, and create a life you love.
For anyone new to my brand, I want you to know that Emme Jazz Shop is more than just clothing or designs—it’s a mama’s dream turned into a business, fueled by creativity, family, and community. When you shop with me, you’re supporting a family, a vision, and a brand built with love.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn in building my business was the habit of comparing myself to others. When I first started, it felt like everyone around me was moving faster, selling more, or creating better designs. I’d scroll through social media and instantly feel behind, like I wasn’t doing enough or growing fast enough.
The backstory is simple—I cared so much about making my business succeed that I measured my worth against other small business owners instead of focusing on my own journey. But over time, I realized that comparison only drained my creativity and stole the joy from why I started in the first place.
Now, I remind myself that every business has its own path. What works for one person may not work for me, and that’s okay. I’ve learned to celebrate others’ wins while still being proud of the pace and progress of my own. The freedom came when I embraced the fact that what sets me apart is my unique style, my story as a mama-owned brand, and the heart I put into everything I create.
Unlearning comparison has been powerful—it allowed me to stay true to myself, trust the process, and pour my energy into serving my customers rather than second-guessing myself.

How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.
I currently sell through two main channels: my personal website (EmmeJazzShop.com) and Etsy. I also love participating in local vendor events when I can—it’s such a great way to connect face-to-face with customers in my community.
For me, having my own website gives me full control over my brand, customer experience, and product presentation. I can showcase new designs exactly how I want, run promotions, and create a direct connection with my customers without the extra fees. The downside is that it takes more effort to drive traffic to my site since I’m responsible for all of the marketing.
On the other hand, Etsy provides built-in visibility and attracts shoppers who are already searching for custom or handmade items. It’s easier for new customers to discover my work there, but of course, there are added fees and a lot of competition on the platform.
That’s why I like balancing both. My website is where I build my brand and long-term customer relationships, while Etsy helps new people find me. And vendor events? They’re a bonus—because nothing beats seeing someone’s face light up when they find the perfect piece in person.
