We were lucky to catch up with Kaleigh Duncan recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Kaleigh, thanks for joining us today. So, let’s start with trends – what are some of the largest or more impactful trends you are seeing in the industry?

Some of the biggest trends I am currently seeing for flowers in 2023 are bright colored blooms, light and airy design, with a whimsical and funky flair. Which I am sooo here for!! I am also loving all of the color brides are using for their big day! Gone are the days of whites and neutrals in flowers! Bring on the color and really make a statement this year!

Kaleigh, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

Hi, I’m Kaleigh! I’m the owner and founder of Petals on Pedals Flower Co — a build your own bouquet style flower cart that encourages people to tap into their own unique style with some of our funky blooms! You may have seen the pink boho flower cart out at markets or pop-ups around Tampa Bay, but you can also book the flower cart for private events such as bridal showers, baby showers, birthdays, corporate parties/events! Our flower cart rental is the perfect photo opportunity and fun activity for your guests! We also offer custom florals for weddings, parties, events & more!

I call myself a third generation flower girl and that is because my mom owns a garden center in Fairhope, AL and her mom owned a florist/gift shop in Orange Beach, AL. So it was only right that I would end up getting my hands dirty too. My love of flowers started young when I would help my mom in the garden growing up. After studying Western Herbalism in college and working for a flower truck, I knew that flowers were always going to be a part of my life and I wanted to pursue it as a career. That’s how Petals on Pedals BLOOMED!

Can you open up about how you funded your business?

I started my business with my very small personal savings. No loans, no investors, no handouts, nada. I used everything I had in my savings account to get Petals on Pedals up and running and what it is today. I had a dream and a deep inner knowing that it would all work out and so far, it has. :-)

Any advice for managing a team?

I truly believe that managing a team and keeping the energy high begins with your own energy. I am a huge advocate of personal health and wellness and I feel that taking care of and showing up for yourself first allows you to show up fully for others. We’ve all had that boss that is overwhelmed, stressed, really seems like they need to take a yoga class — and it shows up in the work environment. I choose to make taking care of myself, my body and my mental health a priority so that I can be the best version of myself for my employees and team.
