We were lucky to catch up with Kajé Jones recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kajé, thanks for joining us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
The most important thing My parents ever did for me artistically was believe in me and support me in my passions. My entire family is extremely encouraging and supportive. Having the love and support from your family strengthens the ability to believe in yourself and push through challenging obstacles. I was 3 years old the first time I stepped on stage and I have continually struggled with stage fright and imposter syndrome throughout my career. My family has always uplifted me and my gifts. There was a time I was crying while on stage at 9 years old and my mom stood right by my side the entire performance. As I continued to battle with my inner conflicts I continued to be terrified every time I stepped on stage. I had another solo for a church play I was crying before around age 12 and my aunt Tracy told me “ to stop all that crying and get on stage and give the people what they wanted, everyone is here to see you sing girl ” I started to believe in myself and push myself outside my comfort zone because sharing my gift became more about being one with Gods light and purpose than me and my fears. I still find myself questioning things sometimes, but I always find peace and realignment with a love and purpose that is bigger than me.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am Kajé Jones originally from Cleveland OH, I was thrown on the stage in church at 3 years old and I have had many people in my life supporting and encouraging and putting me in opportunities to grow ever since. It seems like everyone saw a star in me before I understood it myself. All of my music is out on all streaming platforms and my merchandise is on my website Kajejones.com. I provide modeling services and vocal features for artist. I also write songs for people looking for guidance on tracks. I am most proud of my work ethic and my drive to continuously strive for growth and promoting love and light to those around me.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
One thing society can’t do to support growing is artist is support their work. Listen to and repost their art. Just knowing one person is listening can change everything for a persons drive to keep going
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding moment for me artistically is when my music brings happiness to someone else. Hearing that a song I mad has uplifted or brought joy to someone else is all the motivation to keep going. Allowing myself to be vulnerable on tracks has touched people I never expected to reach and that shines so much light.
