We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kajé a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kajé, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
I sometimes wish I started my creative career sooner because I would have more seniority in the game. However I would not have the same depth of experience to maintain all that the industry comes with. I am a lot wiser and less vulnerable. Me taking the route I did has given me time to learn the industry and realize longevity is the key.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Introducing the enigmatic and soul-stirring songstress, Kajé, whose melodic journey through the realms of gospel, neo soul, and R&B captivates audiences with her powerful vocals and mystical aura.
Born and raised in the heart of a vibrant gospel community, Kajé discovered her passion for music at the tender age of three. Immersed in the rich harmonies and emotive expressions of gospel music, she honed her vocal talents and developed a deep spiritual connection through the power of song.
As she embarked on her musical odyssey, Kajé ventured into the realms of Neo soul and R&B going against the grain of the church’s expectations and vision for her life. This journey was one that built great courage and resilience in her because she decided to follow her dreams and tell her story her way despite the controversy.
Drawing inspiration from luminaries such as Aretha Franklin, Erykah Badu, and Billie Holiday, Jazmine Sullivan she crafted a distinctive sound that resonates with authenticity and soulfulness. Kajé invites listeners on a journey of self-discovery and emotional resonance, weaving tales of love, betrayal, and empowerment through her soothing raspy voice.
As Kajé embarks on her upcoming journey to stardom, she embraces the vintage era of music with reverence and appreciation. Immersed in the timeless elegance and authenticity of classic jazz and soul, she infuses her own artistry with echoes of bygone eras, paying homage to the legends who paved the way.
Kajé is most proud of opening for some huge legends such as Tony Rebel, Queen Afrika, Dexta Dapps, Davido just to name a few. She has also worked with Juno and grammy nominated producers such as SauceBoy, Abli and Eli Brown. She also has never backed down from facing challenges within the industry while maintaining her integrity as a female artist and advocating for others.
Join Kajé on her mystical journey as she illuminates the world with her soulful melodies and transcendent spirit, a diva whose voice echoes through the ages. She’s here to stay and she’s here to leave her mark.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is being able to have full creative control over my music. Having the ability to express my creativity while being able to depict my authentic feelings is a blessing.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn is that not everyone who recognizes your talent has your best interest. You really have to develop a strong spirit of discernment to use as a guide in order to maneuver the best way you can. The back story to this is I had a song out with an artist and I was asked to perform with him. The venu would not accept the solo performance unless I showed up to perform. I agreed to do the show even though my gut instinct was telling me it was a terrible idea. I went ahead and did the show and later found out the artist received payment and never split the payment with me. Not every one is genuine despite the praise they give you.
