We recently connected with Kaj Adnan and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kaj, thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
As far as I remember I have been passionate about the arts, acting in particular as it made me think out of the box to push my imagination to greater limits, and express different stories that I might not live. After finishing my bachelor’s in business marketing. I decided it was time to pursue my real passion. As a result, I enrolled in a conservatory acting course to enhance my crafts.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m originally from Lebanon, I was born and raised in Saudi Arabia and moved to Bahrain at the age of 11 to finish school. I decided to obtain my degree in marketing at the University of Bahrain while simultaneously doing commercials and partaking in acting workshops. I created a YouTube channel as another form of my creative outlet where I post videos that showcase my personality and hobbies. Once I graduated, I wanted to take my acting career further and moved to Los Angeles to pursue that. Since I’ve been here, I have completed two acting courses and have acted in many student films. I find myself frequently cast in drama and comedy roles – which I love because these two genres contrast themselves. I’m proud of everything I’ve accomplished so far but most recently, I got cast as the lead of ‘Obligatory,’ a short based on Elias, a young prison guard whose allegiance to an oppressive regime is tested when he is asked to execute his former college professor.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I believe the most rewarding aspect of being an actor is the ability to successfully play different characters to tell a story while keeping certain aspects of myself to create a unique performance. Although I do this for myself, I appreciate the recognition from my family, friends as well as fellow artists and creatives.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I feel like they don’t understand the risks and rewards of being an artist. Every win, big or small, is a win. Whether it’s a small production or a high-budget feature film, every project I do provides me with experiences and skills that lead to something bigger.
