We recently connected with Kaiyissa Ambriz and have shared our conversation below.
Kaiyissa, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
I was working a 9-5 that felt mundane when I started my business, and the desire came from needing to release creative energy. I think that at whichever time you decide to do something, whether the circumstances be ideal or not, it is the right time. Sometimes sitting on an idea causes us to plan it thoroughly and have proper execution, but other times it only results in procrastination and loss of excitement. There is beauty in just doing, even when the unknowns can seem more prevalent.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a caterer and event planner who specializes in charcuterie workshops, graze tables, themed events; and most recently I launched Milwaukee’s first mobile charcuterie bar. I love creating one of a kind graze tables while keeping flavor pairing and quality ingredients a priority. Being involved in event planning as a caterer allows me to provide food that creates an added essence and experience for a guest.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I’ve always been authentic on social media wether that be posting highlights or moments that are vulnerable and personal. I have allowed people into my world in a way that shows them small parts of my life, even though there is a lot more to who I am than what I post online. It helps me stay connected with people who I genuinely want to see do good, and who genuinely want to see me do good too. I’ve had the same social media for over ten years, so I’ve grown up with a lot of people online and have created real life friendships with many of them through a common interest or understanding. I recommend to stay consistently yourself; post what you like and what you want and it will always be genuine and real, even if people don’t agree. Even if you change your mind about it yourself one day.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I’ve left a 9-5 to focus on my business, before ultimately returning to a 9-5 that was actually fulfilling to me. It was hard because we always think – the goal is to leave the 9-5, but the truth is that our passions can be fueled in different ways and for different reasons. I had to make a conscious choice to be true to my self when I went back to maintaining both my business and my 9-5 for the love of creativity, freedom, and advocacy.
