Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kaitlyn Foster. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kaitlyn, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
Knowing what I know now, I would’ve started much sooner. I thought life would just hand me a role or the opportunity to become apart of something. I had my own stories and my own artistic vision and I very easily could’ve followed through but I thought my first work had to be great, I thought maybe after college, maybe after having experience but I realized the initial experience I needed was going to come from myself.

Kaitlyn, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a 20 year old college student from Houston Tx,I’m a teacher and an aspiring actress/director. I’ve always dreamed of being in movies but I realized the possibility wasn’t that realistic so I decided to become a theatre teacher. Making that decision has been one of the best, I get to learn from my students everyday and love what I do. However I’ve always been keeping an eye out for acting opportunities. To do these jobs you need experience, something I realized I don’t have. So I decided to take matters into my own hands and produce, write and direct my own short film.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Yes, if you’re like me and trying to break into the acting/directing field look all around you because you’re bound to find someone or something to get you a little further along. Look for talent agencies on social media, I couldn’t afford them so I looked at who was following them and these people were in this tiny commercial or this brand deal and then you look at who they were following and who was following them. Suddenly you’re wrapped up in a bunch of young artists trying to break into the industry. Sometimes they’ll post a casting call they’re attending or someone who is looking for extras. This is a great way to hear about opportunities. Especially if there’s a college near you and they are making student films.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part of this is the ability to look at a collection of memories, messages, and experiences. Making films and wanting to act in them is capturing what inspires you. You film a scene but when you watch it back, all you can remember is the jokes told by the cast, the silly little mishaps or the real people behind the characters.
When I was younger I read a book, my favorite book ever, it was called Unwind. This book made me want to become a director because I needed this book to become a movie and for everyone to see it. So if I ever get the chance to make that a reality it would all be worth it.
