We recently connected with Kaitlin Aguilar and have shared our conversation below.
Kaitlin, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
One of the most meaningful projects I’ve worked on is a fundraising campaign for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Tarrant County. The campaign was for the agency’s North Texas Giving Day fundraising efforts. North Texas Giving Day is an annual giving day for all nonprofit organizations. Campaigns for CASA of Tarrant County are focused on raising funds to support the CASA mission, which is to serve abused and neglected children in the county with court-appointed volunteers.
The campaign featured four stories of how CASA volunteers advocate for vulnerable children: CASA Katalina advocating for her youth to have a quinceañera, CASA Jeremy providing birthday surprises of a child’s favorite things, CASA Selena helping family members get their home ready to welcome home their grandchild, and CASA Andrew making sure his youth has what they need to be successful at school. It encompassed mailed postcards, social media campaigns, animated graphics, Squarespace website landing page design and more.
What is most exciting about this campaign is its success. CASA raised a record $54,000 in 18 hours. This means that because of this campaign, 27 abused children will have an advocate on their side, speaking up for their best interests for the next 12 months. I am comforted knowing that my efforts have made but a small dent in the foster care crisis and have helped these children find permanency through the advocacy of a CASA.
Kaitlin, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I hold a BFA in Graphic Design from Texas Christian University. I was born and raised in Fort Worth, TX, and have always had a calling for all things artistic, even at a young age. I’ve worked with various organizations, churches & corporations throughout the DFW Metroplex and beyond. My experience spans web design, publication design, interactive, branding & identity, animations, package design, photography, advertising and social media marketing. My style has been described as direct and articulate, provoking awareness. I’m a proud resident of Grapevine, TX, and my family are my biggest supporters – my husband Tim and daughters Mila and Corinne.
I founded Tenfold in 2014. At Tenfold Creative Co., we blend creativity with strategy, art with technology, design with business — all into a fresh, honest and compelling final product. Based in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, Tenfold is a design studio dedicated to transforming stories from around the nation into compelling visual forms with long-term impact. We strive to multiply big ideas, craft smart design made to inspire and help organizations grow tenfold. At Tenfold, we believe in the power of collaboration. I continuously collaborate with my network, which includes professional contributors including writers, copy editors, photographers, illustrators, developers, calligraphers and more!
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
The first challenge I faced was making the transition from full-time employment to fully self-employed entrepreneurship. Everyone says they want to be “their own boss”, but to actually make that happen is a long hard road full of challenges. It was a scary decision, but one that has turned out to be extremely rewarding. The never-ending support of my family, the inspiration of my mother (who also owns her own thriving business), and my philosophy of never turning down a challenge (delving into new industries, learning new techniques and software, etc) have helped me get to where I am today.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being creative?
A rewarding aspect of being a creative is using my talents and efforts for good. Designing for social change is one of my key priorities, and I love the opportunity to help organizations amplify their voices.
