We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kaitlan C. Farrior. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kaitlan C. below.
Alright, Kaitlan C. thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Among the risks I’ve taken, one stands out as the most significant: transforming my dreams into reality through writing and publishing books. Initially, the prospect of putting my thoughts and creations out into the world was daunting. My first book felt like a leap into the unknown, filled with uncertainty and self-doubt. However, despite these fears, I took the plunge and published it.
Even as my subsequent books reached the Amazon best-selling list and gained recognition in different countries, the fear of vulnerability and uncertainty didn’t fade. Each new book brought its own set of doubts and apprehensions. What I’ve learned through this ongoing journey is the importance of pushing through the fear and embracing it as part of the process.
I’ve realized that my work must resonate with me on a personal level. This authenticity is what enables me to connect with my audience. I’ve come to understand that every creation has its unique audience, and while doubts persist, they don’t define the worth of my work.
Embracing this mindset has allowed me to persist, even when fear creeps in. It’s a reminder that being scared is natural, and it doesn’t hinder my ability to create meaningful work. Ultimately, this willingness to confront my fears has led to unexpected successes and a deeper connection with my readers. It’s a constant journey of learning to believe in myself and my creations, despite the uncertainty that comes with each new project
Another big risk I took was joining NC State’s QuickScripts program in 2022 without any prior experience in scriptwriting. It was completely new territory for me. Despite the initial challenge, I embraced the opportunity to learn. Now, having written several TV scripts and plays, I’ve not only conquered the fear of the unknown but also discovered a newfound passion for scriptwriting. Taking that leap opened up a whole new creative world for me, proving the power of stepping out of my comfort zone.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hello, I’m KC Farrior, though many know me simply as Kaitlan. My journey into the world of writing began as a young girl, captivated by the magic of pen and paper. There was no specific medium—I’d scribble ideas on anything within reach, be it a napkin, tissue, or cardboard. Writing was my constant companion, and it eventually led me to dive into songwriting at the age of 12.
My venture into publishing began when I took a leap and shared my first books with the world in 2020-2021, a significant step at just 18 years old. The response was beyond my wildest dreams, with over 400 reviews and 17,000 copies sold across more than 20 countries, places I’ve yet to physically visit. The support and reach my work has achieved have been incredibly humbling and motivating.
Beyond my own creations, I provide ghostwriting services spanning music, blogs, books, scripts, and more. Being a creative soul, inspiration finds me in the smallest moments and diverse experiences. I thrive on learning and growth, never shying away from a challenge. Saying ‘I don’t know’ isn’t in my vocabulary—I believe the internet offers a wealth of knowledge, and I’m always eager to expand my skill set.
What sets me apart is my passion for versatility and continual learning. I approach each project with dedication, aiming not just to meet expectations but to surpass them. My work stems from a genuine place, resonating with authenticity and a desire to connect with others on a profound level.
What I’m most proud of isn’t just the success achieved at a young age but the journey of constant evolution. I aspire to be a source of inspiration and encouragement, showing that age doesn’t limit ambition or creativity. To potential clients, followers, and fans, I want you to know that I’m committed to delivering quality, authenticity, and a relentless pursuit of creativity in everything I do
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being creative is the heartfelt connections it builds – from the joy of seeing my family recognize my creativity to waking up to messages from strangers sharing how my work touched their lives. Knowing that my book made someone feel deeply, or even shifted their perspective, is immensely fulfilling. The freedom to express myself authentically, the continuous learning and growth, and the ability to inspire others all add to this fulfilling journey. Bringing ideas to life and connecting with communities through creativity is incredibly satisfying, but ultimately, it’s the personal fulfillment of doing what I love and seeing it resonate with others that truly makes being creative so rewarding.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Early on in my journey of taking writing seriously, I was eager to explore various genres and network extensively. I pushed myself to emulate different styles, attempting to write as if I were someone else. Yet, amidst this fervor to fit into molds and replicate others’ success, I lost touch with the happiness and drive that initially fueled my passion.
It was a perplexing time when I realized I was veering away from my true voice and essence. I found myself confused and disconnected, grappling with the loss of what once made writing so fulfilling. It dawned on me that trying to be someone else in my work was suffocating the authenticity that made my writing unique.
That’s when I knew I had to pivot. I had to return to my core, to be authentically me in my writing. I understood that there was nothing wrong with expressing myself from my perspective. I had to shed the fear of not fitting into predetermined molds and embrace what made me stand out.
Stepping back into my own shoes and embracing my unique style was liberating. I stopped being afraid and instead focused on amplifying my strengths. I leaned into what I was good at, exploring my genuine voice without reservation or hesitation.
This pivotal moment was transformative. It reignited my passion for writing, allowing me to reconnect with the joy and drive that had initially propelled me into this creative journey. Embracing my authenticity not only brought back my happiness but also opened doors to opportunities that aligned perfectly with my unique voice and perspective.
