We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kailynn Steele a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Kailynn , appreciate you joining us today. We’d love for you to start by sharing your thoughts about the pros and cons of family businesses

Anything to create wealth, I am literally all in. Ever since I have started my business, I have kept my little sister by my side. If I am working video, just know she is making sure my audio is straight or I have some nice lights in the background. I think family businesses are great if individuals are able to keep the personal and business aspects seperated. Never should the business turn you against or create drama with a family member.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Hello, everyone! My name is Kailynn Steele and I am a 24 year old graphic designer and videographer. I attend Butler University majoring in Digital Media Production. I have always loved trying to create designs, but I didn’t begin to take it serious until the end of 2019. I started to create flyer designs for my church and working on the media team, not knowing we were entering into a pandemic that would literally sit our world down. During the pandemic, I would go into my church and pre-record services, and that is where I found my love for videography. A year after the pandemic, I launched my business KS Media, where I would provide flyer designs and videography services.

If you ever need event pluggers, creative graphic designs, video recaps, wedding videography, livestream services… I am always willing to help and work with new clients.

I am simply just proud of how far I have come. I haven’t been doing this stuff long and I still have a long ways to go, but I am super grateful for the gift God gave me and the wonderful people that I have been able to work with. When you work with me, just know that I am doing everything that I can, to bring your vision to life whether it be through graphics or even video.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?

One of the most rewarding aspects of being an artist or creative is, being able to successfully create the vision that the client has. It is one thing to just create a design, but to be able to literally design with the vision of the visionary in mind is totally different. I love for people to be able to look at the flyer/video and say, “this is what I visualized!” That means I did my job and I am always overjoyed to get that kind of feedback.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

I would definitely say consistency and honesty. One thing I always want to have is a good reputation. I try to be consistent in my social media presence (Design With Me reels or just dropping my latest projects) and even in my work. I always want to provide consistent 110% effort.

But the most important thing is honesty. I am always honest with my clients.
