We were lucky to catch up with Kailey Bunch recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kailey, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
I think all of the families that I work with are meaningful projects. There is something so special about capturing moments that vanish in a seconds time. I honestly think that’s why I enjoy photography so much. I have the ability to surrender those moments and turn it into a glimpse of the past to reflect upon. Something about working with families that have little kiddos is so special to me. I mean look at my phone there’s at least 4,000-5,000 photos of my kids. I find myself looking back on those often and just remembering how sweet they were at that time. I love giving that gifts to moms, dads, and even grandparents.
Kailey, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
For those who have not heard of me, or my story, Id be happy to share a glimpse into my life. My name is Kailey Bunch, Im 23 years old and have been married to my husband for 2 years. We share 4 wonderful kiddos, 3 of which I am blessed to be their bonus mom. I had my daughter in 2021 and she has been the most wonderful blessing of my life. I was raised in the small town of Loganville, GA where literally everyone knows everyone. My grandfather is a nature photographer and has traveled to several locations shooting some of the most stunning photographs I have ever seen. I also grew up with a cousin who was a family photographer in North Carolina during her families time in the military. I was always intrigued with the idea of photography but never really understood how it worked.
In high school I took a few photography classes and pretty much just shot in automatic thinking I knew what I was doing.
Once I graduated high school I asked my parents for a Nikon D3400 camera so I could jump start my photography career. I was watching YouTube videos and that’s when I learned what shooting in Manual was. That was literally the biggest obstacle for me to change how I was shooting sessions.
Flash forward to me now I shoot on a professional grade DSLR camera, with far more knowledge that what I had 5 years ago. I like to think everyone needs a place to start, and honestly having children really made me want to pick up photography full time. I wanted to teach them that it is okay to chase your dreams and to never give up on truly what makes you happy.
I can proudly say that in 2023 I offer minis, half, and full sessions along with an occasional wedding or elopement here or there! It has been such a pleasure to grow my business and meet all the new amazing clients I have!
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I wish I would have known about the amazing community of local photographers that have been there for me numerous times. To name a few Stacie and Lucki have been my go to girls anytime I had questions or just needed a chat about a difficult edit or session!
You girls truly taught me and continue to show community over competition and my heart sincerely thanks you for that!
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
My hobby of photography turned into a side-hustle and then eventually turned into my main career. I am so blessed to be able to say I get to wake up every single day to do what I love. It is so true what they say, ” if you do what you love you will never work another day in your life”. I never understood that statement until this point in my life. This is the career I longed and prayed for and all of the Glory goes to God. Without him my business would be nothing!
