We recently connected with Kailee Marie and have shared our conversation below.
Kailee, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
One of the biggest risks I have ever taken is being self employed and going full time with the business I started at 19 years old. I was midway through college, taking 5 classes, working an internship, working a part time job, managing my business, and photographing weddings every weekend. After graduating from college, I knew photographing weddings was where my heart wanted to be.
I decided that going full time in wedding photography would allow me to focus on perfecting my craft while doing what I loved. The scary part – nothing is promised. I had to push myself to believe in myself and my craft and learn how to sell it. Over the past four years, I have built an amazing clientele in the midwest, nationally, and internationally.
This job allows me to make my own schedule, meet amazing people, and travel. If I didn’t make that leap to truly focus on what my heart was telling me, I wouldn’t be where I am at today, and for that, I am forever thankful.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a wedding photographer based out of Michigan and Chicago, traveling world wide. I focus on weddings, elopements, and engagements! I want to provide my couples with an experience. Planning your wedding can be the most exciting milestone in your life together. Whether that is out on a mountaintop with your favorite humans or a huge party in a vineyard, you’ll be able to walk away with an experience and memories of a lifetime.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think what helps me the most is that I bring my authentic self to every event and session. I always let my couples know that I am on their team and that I am fully honest and dedicated to them through this entire milestone.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I love to keep up with my couples’ lives through social media (i.e Instagram) and interact with them. Even after the contract is completed, I still love to see new milestones they have achieved allowing me to continue that friendship.
