We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kahlil Allen. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kahlil below.
Kahlil, appreciate you joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
I wish when I was 17/18 I would of knew about my path in life and how to get started in trying to build an artist database and also create events for all creative artists. Being able to start the development of Hoca when I was younger could of put me a few steps ahead of where we are now but I’m okay with the development at the same time
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Kahlil, I was Raised in Cleveland, I had a two parent household but that’s another story. Growing up I never thought I would be doing photography or even creating events because if you ask me I wanted to be a sports agent, something like rich Paul or even a cop, but it was not until after my father passed in 2014 that’s had me on a search for a passion or just something to do, I started taken landscape photos with my iPhone 6-7 at the time and started posting them on Instagram and Facebook. Where people started to take a liking to my photos and encouraged me to practices some more and also I should start shooting because I have a good eye for photography, so I did going into 2017-18 I started working at this photography studio, doing schools picture day photos where I shortly met my brother Orlando at who taught me more about photography then I could of imagine knowing. So at the point on I was engaged into photography for the next few years… in the mist of me learning photography, I was working on creating the first open mic event outside of my house with my cousin and another friend of mine by the name of Ace. We threw a open mic event in the house and 16 people showed up and it showed me this is something that can be accomplished and achieved, we need to shed more light on the local artist who is not getting enough attention or even the artist who are scared to display they artwork because they believe they will be judged or bullied, I stem to create a organization for all creative artist to be able to express themselves freely with no judgement pass etc
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part above about being a creative artist is that fact that I get to see some many talent people perform their craft whether it’s their first time or 100th time, it’s still being joy to me knowing that we are creating something meaningful for the community
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal that pushes me is that fact that I would love to see all creative artist get the love and recognition they deserve because it’s so many beautiful artists out here in the world and you will never know unless you go search for it or know someone who know someone, so I would love to shed light on the hidden community the scared community and the lost community because we all have a creative spark inside of us, sometimes it’s just about pushing it out or finding the right outlet
