We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kahlia Ferguson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kahlia below.
Alright, Kahlia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My mission as owner of The Enchanted Princess Company is really simple. I want to provide magical moments for kids. Growing up, I had a number of close family members who made it their mission to bring my imagination to life, so I feel like I know how to do that for others in a way that’s organic. I spent a lot of time with my grand parents, who showed me every day that with resourcefulness, creativity, and artistry, you can make whatever you envision come to life. I encourage that same belief with each performer who works for us at The EPC. My goal is to leave every party having enchanted not only the children but the parents as well. It’s okay to channel your inner child from time to time!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Yes I can! I actually started out as a character performer in Los Angeles. I attended many auditions for a popular theme park in Anaheim (wink wink*) and after multiple rejections I decided to apply for princess party companies. I applied to 10+ companies on the way home from my last audition and was working for about 5 of them a month later. I was in college at the time and this allowed me to pursue my craft as a flutist while making enough money to pay my rent each weekend. I am originally from Chandler, so when Covid hit and it took a while for California to open up, I decided to move back and start a company that prioritizes quality and value.
The Enchanted Princess Company provides incomparable performances/appearances of popular children’s characters. We sing, we act, and we make magical birthday memories for littles! What sets us apart is our performers’ amazing chemistries with each other. Everyone is friends at this company. We also go through a strict vetting process to ensure that when we send someone out, they ARE the character. We want everyone to feel like they met the real princess!
What I’m most proud of is how we are able to provide well-paying job opportunities for high school/college students. I feel like school years, college especially, can be a dark time of trying to get a degree and decide what you want to do with your life, while trying not to be broke all the time. If I can help our cast members with any of those matters I’m happy to do so.
A second thing I’m proud of is when I see performers run up and hug each other before an event or at a company hang. I’ll always be so proud that I’ve had a part in cultivating what I imagine are long term friendships.
Okay- last thing I’m proud of- is when a client texts me a year after their party and says their child still talks about it. I always get emotional when I see a message like that!
If I had to make sure potential clients knew one thing about us that I haven’t already mentioned, it’s that we are totally committed to making you and your child love their birthday. Plain and simple!
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
The EPC was my side hustle initially, but I always knew it would be my main income. I was in the process of getting it to thrive, while working a part time job to cover my bases. I purchased costumes, wigs and products as people requested them and used their deposits to purchase the items. I eventually left my part time job and forced myself to make my business serve my financial needs accordingly. I think taking the leap from having a part time job to being completely self employed is what made me get my business to grow as it needed to. Sometimes feeling the fear and doing it anyway gets you out of your own way.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Great customer service. I’d like to think I maintain a great relationship with our clients from the very beginning of the booking process, until they bid the princess farewell at the end of their party.
