We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kaelyn. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kaelyn below.
Alright, Kaelyn thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the best or worst investment you’ve made (either in terms of time or money)? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
The best investment I have made is the intentional time I have dedicated to (re)learning my authentic self. As a young child, I was so unafraid at being myself but as time went on, I began to shape my identity based off of the comfort and digestibility of others. That identity led me on a path of darkness that separated me from full potential purpose; it was hell. Subscribing to the identities created to sources outside of Creator and myself, has been the worst spend of my life! These investments have taught me that this journey of life calls for a true narrow path, and that is your unique essence. And that essence, is critical to the harmony of the ecosystem. This decision was made when I internalized that my authenticity helps to heal another. That has been my return 100fold. :)
Kaelyn, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Kaelyn D’Yanna Guillaume, a holistic healer that uses fashion as the primary avenue to help people discover and embrace their authentic selves. Fashion has always been my avenue to express myself, even when I didn’t live authentically. Fashion and aesthetics were always healing. It challenged me externally and internally, and eventually helped me to assess every part of me. That’s what THREADZ is all about: helping others to express their true selves through fashion, empowering them to live authentically as a whole, complete vessel. Every thread matters! Through this vehicle, I am able to help individuals find their personal style by doing assessments of their holistic health. We are spirit, soul, and body; how we adorn ourselves is a reflection of every part of us. THREADZ by Kaelyn D’Yanna is a service-based business where I serve my clients through personal shopping, event styling, and wardrobe consultation and construction. Beyond the service, this brand creates community for individuals to feel safe in their expression, and feel safe in figuring out what that may truly look like for them.
THREADZ Academy is the educational component of this brand where I teach GenZ on how to build their confidence through fashion. My students, husband, and I have produced two fashion shows thus far and are in the process of planning a Back-to-School show. We’ve partnered with other creatives locally to teach them how to model, sew, do stage production, and a plethora of other skills.
In addition to THREADZ, I have been working on a lifestyle brand that resonates with an audience that values self-expression, sustainability, and a balanced lifestyle. The core values are authenticity and community, both of which have been pivotal to my evolution. This brand will include merchandise, content, and events that align with the core values. I am quite early in the conceptual process, and to be honest, I don’t have it all together. That’s what makes it fun! :)
I’m most proud of the peace I have with not having it all figured out and I want my potential supporters to experience the same. Healing is comfortable but always worth it and having community makes it worth while. I want people to know that anything I produce is intended to help heal the collective. I have so many ideas that will be manifested in due time but they all have the same mission: holistic wellbeing.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
It must start at home. Parents need to start being and maintaining safe spaces for their children to explore their creativity. As a high school teacher, I see first-hand how much of GenZ is gifted, yet they don’t have the space or guidance to discover their creative selves. Much of which stems from their parents’ lack of exploration, fear, and trauma. I believe parents and children can thrive if they began the journey of self-discovery together. Society could change the norms related to creatives and artists starting in schools. While the arts may be valued in certain institutions, it’s not consistent across the board especially amid the recent emphasis on STEM curriculums. Society should advocate for a healthy balances of the two; while we need the piratical elements of STEM, creativity allows for expression.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is that I can never truly turn it off. This can also be the most daunting aspect because the gifts you have will also work, you just have to allow them to make room for you. Being a creative comes with responsibility to express the Divine on this earthly plane. That simple truth not only connects me back to Source, but back to myself, those that have come before me, those that will come after me, and those that currently share this experience with me. It’s rewarding to serve others wholeheartedly and intentionally.
