We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kael Jackson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kael below.
Kael, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
On September 1st of this year a week after turning 25 I packed my belongs and moved to Nashville, Tennessee to further my career in music. This has by far been the biggest risk I have taken in my life thus far and it has been both thrilling and terrifying. I had been planning a move to a larger city with a more active music scene for years but could never narrow down where I wanted to land or the funds to make such a move. With my 25th birthday approaching I visited Nashville just simply to change my scenery and was immediately impressed with the abundance of talent and appreciation for music that the city had to offer. From then on I had one goal and pursued it relentlessly by saving every penny I could and researching the area. Although I am still very new to this adventure I can forever feel empowered by making a bold move and seeing it through regardless of the outcome.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Since the age of 16 Ive been a songwriter fronting several bands in different genres. After years of open mics, DIY punk venues, and house shows I began to hone my craft and signature sound. My goal as an artist has always been to find my own lane so to speak, to be almost unpredictable in what I produce so that I cannot be placed in a box. Through that mentality I have found a sound that is uniquely me and also reminds the listener of records from the past. What separates my sound from others is the blend of rock n roll and western sounds that comes equally from 70’s rock n roll/country records and 60’s western film soundtracks such as The Good The Bad And The Ugly.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
From a purely musical level my goal is to bring country and rock n roll together and be a part of a genre-less musical movement to break down the barriers of music. On a personal level my goal is to overall bring people together and change the way fans and musicians think about the world and music. I seek to be the rebellious voice of new musicians coming up that do things their own way without creative restriction or societal pressure to fit into a box. I aim to be an outlaw poet singing the siren song for rebels and thinkers alike.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being an artist is the complete freedom of expression. As a songwriter you have the ability to think about what you want to say and craft it in any easy and catchy way to digest. Too many times in life we blurt out our responses or we don’t say what we really mean but in a song it’s all there whether you realize it or not.
