Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kae Strain. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Kae , thanks for joining us today. One of the most important things small businesses can do, in our view, is to serve underserved communities that are ignored by giant corporations who often are just creating mass-market, one-size-fits-all solutions. Talk to us about how you serve an underserved community.
My career as a fitness professional and business owner recently took a turn in the direction of the more high end and upscale areas. These areas ONLY consider and seek out professionals that possess lots of skill and an extensive (verifiable) knowledge and experience level. Daily, I’m reminded that I continue to provide my services to the underserved communities because they deserve the same level of expertise. So, I have remained at one location as a practitioner to be that Resource for the less fortunate. I show up for This group faithfully. And, am committed to continuing to give them An upscale experience always. They receive nutrition assistance, fitness advice, and I partner with other aspiring trainers to construct group trainings and boot camps for those who may not be able to afford that high dollar monthly rate. However, they have the desire to be healthy and fit.

Kae , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Most people know me by “Kae.” I own a fitness and nutrition training and coaching/consulting business called We FIT Fitness World LLC. I am also a cycle instructor and personal trainer. My fitness business has expanded and, as a result, it birthed two brands: Fit beauty and SPIN Fam.
Fit beauty is a fitness apparel and accessories brand that is focused around being FIERCE, FEMININE and FIT! I feel often times women (especially women of color) feel that we have to choose between being fit and looking good. That could not be further from the truth. There is also an misconception that if you look “fit” you are masculine. My apparel and accessories are geared towards women who want to “bust a** in the gym…not show it.”
SPIN Fam is my indoor cycle specific brand that is currently just in the merchandise and small events stage. I aim to eventually get into sales of equipment, such as cycle shoes, clips, bike shorts, and other indoor cycle necessities.
In both brands, the goal is to create a collaborative and motivating community that pushes people to be their best selves.
I decided to go into the fitness business after it became necessary for me to prioritize mine due to health issues. With the help of a few benevolent trainers who were willing to invest in a small town girl with no money to pay for a trainer…I lost 50lbs and fell in love with fitness. I worked overtime to pay for certification courses in order to possess the necessary skill set to help others.
I provide a variety of products and services from coaching, consulting, personal training, nutrition plans and counseling. I also own two merchandise lines as mentioned previously. The service I’m most proud of is the one that cost ZERO dollars. I possess the ability and desire to assist my clients and class members with a shift in mindset. After working with me, I can almost guarantee my clients and members become life long fitness advocates.
In conjunction with the SPIN Fam members, a community has been created. The members have formed friendships and an extensive network of professionals in multiple fields. We promote support within our community. And, we show up for one another. Always.
I’m told that the reason my community has grown so quickly is my high energy personality, hip hop music mixed in with some pretty crazy choreography in my classes. I also model a modest approach to promotion of my business. I do not advertise. My clients are referrals only. And, I am strongly against the portrayal of nearly nude women in fitness promos. I feel a woman who has dedicated herself to the lifestyle has way more to offer. Everything I do is centered around authenticity. And, I believe my supporters appreciate that.

We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Fitness began as a hobby. It then turned into a side hustle. And has now grown into my full time business. In 2017, I began acquiring licenses and certifications relevant to being a fitness professional. It began with a personal training certification. Then, nutrition and eventually a medical specialist certification. It was my desire to provide nutrition assistance to the underserved communities that are plagued with chronic illnesses like diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
I was in Atlanta competing in bodybuilding competitions at This point, when a medical emergency occurred with my mom. I had to make a very tough decision to move back to my home state of Texas. I was very torn as I had began to make traction in the Atlanta fitness scene.
I had an amazing mentor named Troy. I shared my reservations about moving with him. He told me that if I had, in fact made an impact, my absence in Atlanta would only help my career. He was right. I moved back to Texas and only made more connections and partnerships in Atlanta.
Now, the hard part…building a network in Dallas, Tx. A city where I had ZERO fitness connections. This was incredibly intimidating to me because I am not a super outgoing person. But, my work began to speak for itself. I connected with people through my workouts and while taking a friend’s Cycle class. Through these interactions , I built a clientele.
In 2018, I decided I wanted to legitimize my business. So, I invested in basic supplies to make merchandise using pre printed motivational graphics. The profits from those sales were used to finance my business. This included the website and incorporation fees. I eventually began designing my own graphics and other necessities for my merch. A few dope designs made it high demand.
November 2019 came around and I auditioned for my first part time cycle instructor job. I had a task on my hands because I was brand new…at a brand new gym. Zero members. But, I built my followers pretty quickly. My classes became very popular to the point where an online reservation system was REQUIRED to get a seat. Now imagine teaching classes of 5 and the numbers quickly grow to 30+ with reservations running out within 5 mins of being released!!! This following enabled me to get some of my merchandise out without having to do any promo. Before you know it, my merch is on Amazon and is in high demand.
My coaching business was up and down because I didn’t have a lot of time to invest in it. So, I made the decision to pursue fitness on a more full time basis and didn’t look back.
I am in a good place now. My business has contracted with a few major brands. And, I continue to spread my message of community, collaboration and fitness.

We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
I own my business 100%. However, I like to think of my SPIN Fam and the Fit beauty founding members as my partners. There is a small group of individuals that compose what I would call my “founding circle” in the SPIN Fam and beauties. They have been with me and supported me since early on. They have my back and vice versa. I truly believe that you are only as good as your support system. And, they are a great one. I don’t want to leave out all the SPIN Fam members. Because whether a founder or not…nothing I have done would be possible without their additional good vibes and support.
