We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kadesha Daniel a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kadesha, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I dived headfirst into filmmaking in college. I went to school for Packaging Design and one assignment was to create a brand experience. I wanted to create an ad for the brand knowing that it is a necessary element for the success of a brand. In class, I learned about Premiere Pro through the Adobe system I was already familiar with. This propelled a journey of creating videos and short films for other classes. I was intrigued and began film making my own content. I would go on YouTube and teach myself different techniques in video editing via Premier Pro and After Effects. One thing that could of helped my process is being open and willing to record anywhere. I shied away from recording in public. The most essential skills in this process was always adapting and learning no matter what. Adapting to needs of other creatives and consistently learn the craft while balancing a full time job. The instant passion I once had continues to pull me in with each project. This gut feeling may be the skill I find most essential. The obstacle that slowed or hindered the process was not 100% believing in myself.

Kadesha, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a creative director and filmmaker with a passion for bringing stories to life through visual storytelling. My journey into the filmmaking and music video industry began simply by picking up a camera and immersing myself in networking events, where I connected with like-minded individuals. Over the years, I have provided video services for a wide range of clients, capturing everything from music videos and events to vlogs and maternity shoots—anything that allows me to express my creativity. What sets me apart from many other music video directors is my commitment to creating memorable and impactful pieces for my clients, ensuring that each project stands out. One of my proudest achievements is building my own production company, For Us All, a brand created by people of color and designed to uplift and empower individuals within our community. Our mission is to give talented artists who may not have a massive following the opportunity to showcase their work and gain the recognition they deserve.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I believe that supporting artists is a huge part of building a strong, safe community. When we invest in young artists and encourage them to explore their creativity, it gives them a positive outlet and keeps them engaged in something meaningful. Art has a way of bringing people together, helping them stay inspired, and giving them a sense of purpose. By fostering creativity, we create an environment where people feel connected, supported, and motivated to keep growing.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being a creative is seeing your vision come to life. There’s something incredible about taking an idea from your mind and turning it into a real, tangible piece of work that others can experience. Whether it’s a film, a music video, or any other creative project, watching it all come together—the visuals, the emotions, the storytelling—is an amazing feeling. It’s even more fulfilling when your work resonates with people, evokes emotions, or inspires them in some way. That moment when you step back and see what you’ve created makes all the hard work, late nights, and challenges completely worth it.
