Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kadeem Ellis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Kadeem, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear you experience with and lessons learned from recruiting and team building.

The team-building process was interesting because I initially desired assistants who already had some photography experience. I realized quickly that is was not the way to go especially when you have your own brand, style, and foundation. My ideal team members did not work out. So, I decided to go another route by looking for team members who wanted to learn photography while receiving extra income. We reached out to three people we knew in 2021 who had no photography experience. We trained them for 4 months and now they are able to go out on their own to events when we cannot. Taking the time to teach them, encourage them, coach them, and also correcting them to be better was important to their growth as photographers.

I am so glad I decided to build not only team but leaders. They are eager to learn and passionate about everything that makes up Kadeem A Ellis Photography & Events, LLC. My advice to anyone who is contemplating about building a team or adding just one person is to “Just Do It”.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?

I am Kadeem A Ellis and I wear multiple hats. I am a husband, father.​​, pastor, doctoral student, business owner, and more. Most people would initially say that I am busy, but I consider myself balanced. I started my photography business with a passion for photography.

Today, Kadeem A Ellis Photography and Events, LLC captures life events, creates balloon designs, decorates parties, and face paints. Creativity is our passion. It is my greatest joy to serve people and see them excited at any special moment in life. Whether it is a wedding, a 50th birthday, or building a brand, our clients are considered our family.

Everything my business embodies today ​has progressively become what it is today. I am proud of the growth I have witnessed since day one as a problem solver and a professional. My business is built around the foundation of my faith and my calling to be a light in the world with whatever I have been equipped to offer.

Any advice for managing a team?

Manage a team based on the way you desire to be managed. I have promoted quality performance to my teammates by having monthly team meetings and training sessions. During this times my team gets to perfect their skills and learn. Also, I get to learn about my teammates in a less stressful environment. I have learned to esteem my team as leaders to keep a high morale for the whole team to win.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?

My co-founder is my wife, Adrianna. She helped me walk into my dream. We met in college. When I started the business we were engaged. She actually did not have a choice because of our purpose in life to become one. That’s how I met my co-founder and now we have built an amazing team.
