We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kacie Anderson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kacie below.
Hi Kacie, thanks for joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Success as a music executive in the music industry requires you to be experienced, but fluid, knowledgable, but adaptable. combination of skills, knowledge, and qualities. You absolutely have to have a passion for music, it’s fundamental. Music executives need to have a deep appreciation for various genres and be able to identify emerging trends and talent, because this industry changes constantly. The industry’s current trends, business models, and legal aspects are always evolving. In my field in particular, networking is key, building and maintaining a strong network of various contacts, including brand partners, managers, and other executives, which can open doors to opportunities and collaborations. It takes a whole lot of things to be a master at your craft, but the longer you stick with your passion, all of the things it takes to be successful become second nature.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Absolutely! My name is Kacie and I’m originally from Stockton, CA now residing in L.A. I’m currently the Sr Director of brand partnerships at Epic Records and am absolutely obsessed with my career.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think the main and most important thing that has helped build my reputation, has been remaining true to who I am. Over the years I have definitely gotten older and wiser, but I have always been Kacie and I really pride myself on that. People always have this negative connotation with Los Angeles and getting lost on the sauce , but if you’re a good human, you’re a good human no matter where you are or what you do. Learn to navigate all the things and focus on your goals.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I worked for Nike 2019-2020 and I helped open the Nike Watts Community Store. During my time there, I would constantly get in trouble for trying to create cool moments for my Watts community and my Watts Nike athletes. Teetering between fashion and music for the majority of my life, I have always been able to tap into both worlds to collaborate on epic events and team up with dope people to create more impactful moments. So I was always trying to do that for my team and really think outside of the box for them. However, Nike really wanted me to stay in my lane and in the box they created, and it became hard for me to conform to that. In 2021, when Nicole W., President of A&R at Interscope, pinged me to come work for Interscope Records and now with John Kirkpatrick at Epic Records, it was like that box I was placed in had been shattered. Pivoting from fashion and streetwear to now being able to get super creative as a brand partnerships exec. in the music industry, it was the best decision I could have ever made for myself. All of the things I get to do, the game changing moments I get to create, and the people I have the honor of meeting and working with daily are all priceless. I am forever grateful for the people who took a chance on me and continue to share my visions.
