Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kaci Palmore. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Kaci thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s one of the most important lessons you learned in school?
The most impactful lesson I learned was when I was trying to get into college. I played basketball my whole life, and in the year leading up to my high school graduation, my mom and I booked about six colleges for me to try out at.
I was so nervous at one of the schools that I didn’t want to do the tryout. I was anxious and emotional and just wanted to go home, but my mom wouldn’t let me. Instead, she told me to take five minutes to feel my feelings and then let them go.
That strategy was impactful because: 1. Feelings are there for a reason and often will only go away once they are acknowledged 2. Just because they are there and valid doesn’t mean they get to stop you from doing what you need to do 3. Having a time limit prevents them from overstaying their welcome. You have to push through at some point, and having a time limit makes that point crystal clear.
During those five minutes, I decided I would do my very best, and whatever the outcome, I’d be fine. I reassured myself that I would end up where I was meant to be; I just had to do my part to get there. At the end of my five minutes, I decided to leave it all on the court, and leave it on the court I did! I dominated at that tryout! I was confident and carefree and had a blast.
I still use the five minute strategy to this day. It’s my go-to remedy for pushing past nerves.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Kaci Diane, and I am a digital marketing professional. I am a copywriter, social media manager, and SEO expert. I have been working in the field for about eight years and am dedicated to learning as much as possible to stay relevant in an ever-changing digital landscape.
I help my clients by allowing them to focus on running their businesses without burdening themselves with how to market themselves. I know how frustrating that can be. At my core, I am a poet; that’s where my love of writing started. I got into marketing because I needed to figure out how to sell my poetry books. Thankfully, writing is a very transferable skill. I started as a copywriter and continued to learn more and more complementary skills.
I’m fortunate because I enjoy digital marketing. I enjoy talking to clients and learning about their passions. I enjoy finding new ways and employing tried and true ways of getting the word out about my client’s businesses. It’s a privilege to do what I do, and I don’t take a single business relationship for granted.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson I had to unlearn was trading time for money. The longer you train at something, the better you become at it, and the quicker it is to get done. When this truth was introduced, it permitted me to offer my services differently.
As much as I enjoy digital marketing, I don’t want to spend the majority of my time working. I want to spend it with my family, taking fun vacations, and enjoying my friends. That’s why I offer set prices instead of hourly. I am an efficient and timely worker – I should get paid more for that, not less.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Referrals and networking have been the best sources of new clients for me. It’s a reminder to me to keep putting myself out there. It’s the best way to get new clientele.
