We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kachelle Roark . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kachelle below.
Hi Kachelle, thanks for joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
A lot of us are told to stay in the safe zone and not take the risk because the uncertainty of what can happen, however nothing amazing is really ever birthed in the comfort zone! Throughout my life, I’ve always been a risk taker and a very determined individual. I remember just graduating high school and going into college, the only reason I went it because I was told, this is the next time you need to do to become successful however, I was kind of unsure. I thought going in, that I wanted to become a psychologist or a therapist but when I got to school, I had no desire to be there. So one day with the prompting of God nudging me in my spirit to lean into hair, thats what I did! I told my family I’m not coming back after this year is over, I’m going into hair! I got backlash for it however when I leaned into and went for it, I began feeling fulfilled. That psychologist/ therapist I wanted to be, I still got utilize that natural gift in me behind the chair! When you take risk and lean into what is already in you, your discover purpose.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Kachelle Roark, I am a motivational speaker, a published author, cosmetologist and trichologist( A trichologist is someone who scientifically studies the hair loss and scalp conditions that looks at the situation in a holistic manner to located the root to what the person is experiencing and offer holistic solutions that will help the client within their scope. Trichologist are the gap between cosmetology and dermatology.) In addition to that, I am the founder of Chelle’s Haute Seat. Our brands mission is to bring awareness to hair loss, educate and cultivate self care and wellness back into haircare that illuminates the inner beauty. We offer restorative devices that stimulate the follicles and we have a natural hair restoration line that is expanding which currently includes our Exousia topical hair growth Tea and hair follicle stimulator oil, that yields consistent results and more! Our goal is to empower each individual to know that “with or without my hair, I am still gorgeous. I can dress up/dress down my hair or rock the bald but it’s what’s in me that surpasses my looks.”
Before Chelle’s Haute Seat existed, I attending college for 1 year and was miserable. I knew I wasn’t supposed to be there, however it was in that year that being a hairstylist was revealed to me on the profession I was suppose to go into. After, I attended cosmetology school and there Chelle’s Haute Seat was birth September 2014 in hair school.
In the beginning I was a hairstylist behind the chair that offered an array of hair care services and did creative work such as fashion shows, photo shoots and film that was published. For 7 years and in 3 different states, I was blessed to cater to the everyday women and make them feel and look good inside out. Throughout my career I would notice an increase of hair loss in my chair and was stumped because I didn’t have answers or solutions but knew I needed to be the solution. While living in in San Diego in 2017, I sought out a Trichology program and enrolled in it, however it would be that it was the right thing but wrong time due to me and my husband relocating from San Diego to Virginia. So, I had to put it to the side, until December 202o when that burning desire and urgency to pick it back up would re-emerged because now it was the right time!
All the variables were now aligned to get it started.
The crazy amazing part about my journey, is that if I had gotten my certification in 2o17, I wouldn’t have met a vital person who help me create my first product which is Exousia Hair Growth Tea and wouldn’t had experienced hair loss(happened in 2019) first hand yet to be able to speak from experience which is more impactful.
In early 2020 I had a client who was a college professor and herbalist, one day in conversation, she planted a seed about a herbal hair growth rinse, that I would eventually act on and take a education class from her a year later. While in the process of creating and testing this hair growth tea in January 2021, I began using it on my clients and noticed quick hair growth results. literally witnessing results after the first 2 uses. I was shocked so, I sent some tea to a client on the west coast with instructions and it still produce consistent results. Thats when I knew, I was onto something. In addition to creating the product, I enrolled in a trichology program and finished May of 2o21. I finally had answers to the why clients were experiencing hair loss, how to identify and now I created a solution! My God it was all coming together and in June 2021, I was surprisingly contacted by naturallycurly.com to do an article.
As time progressed and more results being yielded, I was beginning to get questions from clients and other stylist asking if I was going to eventually sell it. At first, I declined then eventually my mind change. I began thinking, “I have solution to hair loss, it is selfish to sit on it and not give it to the world because this isn’t for me its for others.” . After I came, I around launched the hair growth tea February 2022. Then later on in 2022, I had another idea and create a herbal infused hair growth oil and launch it February 2023.
This journey has been tough, fulfilling, moments of many tears, imposter syndrome, faith, loss and gain, character development, no money, however, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Through this, I’ve built tenacity and I can’t stop now. Although I’ve been in the beauty industry for 8 years. I have so much more to learn and to pour out! truthfully, I am now definitely in a new season of career where I have stepped back from behind the chair to fulfill the next phase. This is uncomfortable but still so rewarding. I look forward to Chelle’s Haute Seat haircare products being a staple and the well known effective hair restoration lines like Bosley. I also look forward to our brand empowering inner beauty world wide through wellness in hair care.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
I think aside from book training and obtaining knowledge in the field the most helpful thing for anyone is to succeed is gaining experience and apply what you have learned! Taking everything you learn and put into action at the presented times!
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
The resources that have significantly impacted my entrepreneurial philosophy and experience are, Eat that frog by Brian Tracy, The character of leadership by Myles Monroe, Confronting without offending. by Deborah Smith, also listening to Anthony O’Neal on Youtube, Lakeisha Michelle on YouTube and more. All these books and podcast made me look at being an entrepreneur on a larger scale and learning the importance of money, effective communication and walking in good character , clear system and boundaries . You can have a business but the doesn’t mean that your business will thrive and allow those who work with you and for you to soar because if your character isn’t in tact them your business is going to be a reflection.
