We recently connected with K Renee Horton and have shared our conversation below.
K Renee, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear your thoughts about making remote work effective.
I’ve really leaned into remote work and started maximizing my time for my day to day career and my business. I’ve converted the time I would have used for travel into usable work time.
My team has always worked remote. The pitfalls are that sometimes deadlines get missed and you are communicating without being able to see body language to truly examine the situation.
K Renee, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
After a decade away from academia, I found myself standing on the precipice of a new challenge. I was returning to school, not as the carefree student I once was, but as a parent of three and recently diagnosed with hearing loss. The journey that lay ahead was daunting, but I was fueled by a determination that was stronger than any obstacle I could face.
My life had been a whirlwind of change over the past ten years. I had become a parent, a role that brought immense joy and challenges. And then came the diagnosis – hearing loss. It felt like a cruel joke, a hurdle that threatened to derail my dreams. But I refused to let it define me.
Returning to school was a decision born out of resilience and a desire to set an example for my children. I wanted them to understand that life’s challenges, no matter how insurmountable they seem, can be overcome. I wanted them to see their mother not as a victim of her circumstances, but as a fighter who refused to give up.
The journey was far from easy. Balancing parental responsibilities, managing my hearing loss, and keeping up with coursework was a Herculean task. There were moments of self-doubt, moments when the weight of my responsibilities threatened to crush me. But each time, I reminded myself of the reason behind my decision – my children.
My children were my pillars of strength. Their smiles, their unwavering faith in me, gave me the courage to face each day. They were my motivation, my inspiration, my driving force.
Returning to school after 10 years, as a parent of three and with a hearing loss, was a test of my resilience. But it was a journey that taught me the true meaning of perseverance, determination, and the power of never giving up. It was a testament to the fact that life’s challenges are not roadblocks, but stepping stones to a stronger, more resilient self.
