We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful K. Larry. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with K. below.
Alright, K. thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Some of the most interesting parts of our journey emerge from areas where we believe something that most people in our industry do not – do you have something like that?
In the writing world, many people view negative reviews as something to fear or avoid, but I believe they can actually be part of the growth process. I’ll never forget one of my hardest reviews, the reader wrote, ‘I wish I could unread this book.’ At that moment, I was defeated and discouraged. I let that one comment drown out all the good reviews I had received, and I honestly questioned whether I should keep writing at all.
But sitting with that experience taught me something. Reviews, both good and bad, mean people are engaging with my work. And while that review stung, it forced me to step back, grow, and push myself to improve, without losing my voice. Now I see that even negative feedback has value, because it challenges me to be better.
So while many authors do everything they can to avoid criticism, I believe it’s part of the journey. A bad review doesn’t mean I failed; it means I’m still brave enough to put my work out there, and that in itself is success.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My readers know me as K. Larry, The Urban Romance Princess. I’ve written over 20 novels in almost seven years, but the truth is I almost didn’t become a writer at all. I always had the desire, but fear made me doubt if I would be good enough. In 2016, after losing my father unexpectedly, I wrote my first story as a way to process that pain. That book opened the door for me, and I’ve been writing ever since.
What sets my work apart is that my stories are rooted in authenticity and emotion. I don’t just tell love stories. I create characters that feel real. Readers often tell me they’re looking for my male main characters in real life, or that they can see themselves in the struggles and triumphs of my characters. That kind of feedback reminds me that what I’m writing isn’t just fiction; it’s a connection.
Beyond my novels, I also run K. Larry Editing & Proofreading Services, where I help other authors polish their manuscripts without losing their unique voice. I’m proud of both sides of my work, writing stories that resonate deeply with readers and supporting authors as they find the courage to share their own. At the heart of it all, my brand is about proving that love has no boundaries and that everyone deserves to see themselves in a story.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Consistency has definitely been key in building my reputation. I’ve made it a priority to not just write books, but to stay engaged with my readers and market my work consistently so I can continue reaching new audiences. Every release, I put in the effort to make sure my books are seen and accessible, and I don’t take that lightly.
Another big part of my growth has been my readers themselves. They’ve been incredible about sharing my books with their friends, family, or even someone just looking for a good read. Word of mouth has been one of the strongest tools in expanding my reach, and I’ll always give credit to my readers for helping me grow my brand.
At the end of the day, it’s been that combination, showing up consistently, engaging directly with my audience, and having a loyal community of readers who believe in my work enough to share it, that’s built the reputation I’m proud of today.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an author is knowing my stories are being read and felt by people everywhere. I almost had a fit when I realized someone in the UK had picked up one of my books. That moment showed me just how far my words could travel.
What really touches me are the messages I get from readers. Some tell me they recognized their hometown (Birmingham, AL) in my stories and loved seeing familiar places come alive through my characters. Others say they could actually feel the emotions of my characters oozing off the pages. That kind of feedback swells my heart because it means I’m not only doing something I love, but I’m also touching lives at the same time.
That connection, knowing that my words can transport, heal, or make someone feel seen, is the greatest reward of all.
