We were lucky to catch up with K Hus recently and have shared our conversation below.
K Hus, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s jump back to the first dollar you earned as a creative? What can you share with us about how it happened?
My first time being paid for being an artist I was a sophomore in high school. I had just dropped my first mixtape ever and was already popular from playing sports in school so when it released the support was there. 2 weeks later a kid from a school 2 towns over reached out and asked if I could perform at his party the upcoming weekend. I’d never done a show before so I almost turned it down. Then he mentioned his parents would pay me $200 , at the time I’m like huh? $200 to perform 3 songs? Sign me up I didn’t know what I was doing or how I was gone do it I just know I entertained people without a microphone my whole life so it can’t be that hard

K Hus, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve always been a big fan of music. Growing up I lived in a music household. I always was around it because my mom did PR and managed artists like Mickey Factz & smoke dza who are uncles to me. They inspired me. I think my most proud moment of my career was performing on tour alongside Young Thug and Machine Gun Kelly , that was a different experience for me. Opened my eyes like damn not only can I really do this but I’m doing it with artists I listened to from middle school until now. As far as my problems music got me through most my life . I been through some things I don’t wish upon anyone but music helped me weather the storm in some of my darkest days honestly & thats why I go so hard , if I didn’t make music I’d probably be in the streets still or worse.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
So growing up I was always popular or “litt” and I always played sports and was good so people always find they self gravitating toward me. So when I made my first social media which was AIM instant messenger it was jumping , and I’ve literally built from there up , from MySpace to Facebook to IG I’ve had the same IG since I started rapping 2010. One specific video I made went viral on twitter and after that it was up . People still ask me about it today it’s the “He can never be me baby” video lol I was going through a breakup and I was being petty on twitter my friend was recording and i don’t know why but I just said it , I put the caption as “When you see your ex with her new boyfriend” next thing I know I woke to 10K views and it keep going from there. Has over 100K views on twitter till this day and still going up

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
So a lot of people do and a lot of people don’t know but a good 4-5 years out of my career I spent with the legendary YSL camp . I say that to say this when I first met them someone flew me to ATL because he wanted to sign me to a mgmt contract . He ended up takin me to meet lil duke and god bless the dead my brother lil Keed. They liked my energy so much they asked me to go on the road with them . At the time I was broke and I was just lit lol doing shows local throwing parties making a few bucks here and there and running the streets with my friends. Where I’m from im used to being the Star of the show so when I got around them it was a lil different but I understood the concept of playing your role and staying down till you come up. I did whatever I could on that tour that wasn’t against my morals to show I’m not just around for no reason. I carried luggage , I made store runs, I was a hype man whatever was needed of me I did it . It got stressful , it made me feel like I was less than what I was and I was just around as an errand boy. One night lil Keed missed a show and they needed someone to fill a 15 min slot , live nation who threw the tour came up to me and asked if I could fill the slot they heard I made music and I already had the crowd lit as a hype man every night . That night changed my life forever and my relationship with YSL . I ended up living and moving around with them up until they were arrested a few years ago. YSL For Life Fasho . But if that’s not showing resilience i don’t know what is.
