We recently connected with K. Edward and have shared our conversation below.
K., thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
A LiFe VeRsE is a verse or short passage in the Bible that has a special meaning to you and speaks to you in a personal way. I believe that if we dare we can look back over our lives or specific situations and point to God’s handiwork. And, in doing so, find a scripture to reference.
Naming the brand LiFe VeRsE seemed to make sense when you consider the purpose–to get folks talking about Christ and what He’s done. In Revelelations 12:11 says “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they loved not their lives unto death.” The they mentioned are the believers–and explains the ‘how’ we overcome temptation and difficulty. For sure we are overcomers by the blood of the Jesus but that’s not all. We also overcome by sharing our testimony. And, because we have shared our testimony it gives us confidence and a certainty that we can face anything…even death.
When you share in transparency what you’ve overcome and the way God has moved in your life, a person can’t help but to feel encouraged and will hopefully think: “If He did it for them–He might just do it for me”

K., love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is k. Edward, originally from New Jersey–I am a Jesus follower, mother of two, and a published author and playwright. Originally from New Jersey; I recently moved to Georgia to be with my daughter. I was tired of the distance, especially after Covid. Also I believed that Georgia was an up and coming Hollywood, and thought my aspirations of pursuing a career in film would have a better chance of being nurtured. I’ve had a few high moments and am very thankful for the opportunity and experience they provided, however I haven’t released my baby just yet. It is still a work in progress, but when it drops it’s gonna be some type of fire.
It’s funny that sometimes the perspective of what you think you want changes the more you grow closer to God. His will for you becomes yours which is where I think I am now, in that I only want to please God with my work and with my words. I was very close to producing my work but after careful consideration and what I believe to have been pure revelation conceded that it wasn’t ready. And, because my desire is to honor God in everything I had to take a step back temporarily. If I’m being honest I’d have to admit that it wasn’t a quality baby. I’d been listening to Joseph Prince and he prayed over the congregation-I was at home watching. He said the words quality baby in respect to mothers who wanted children. Often times the projects that we are working on are referenced as ‘babies” and when he said quality baby I knew immediately God was talking to me about my work. Today it’s still a work in progress and closer to being the quality piece desired and needed to move souls closer to God.
Initially LiFe VeRsE started as my verse: Luke 1:45 because I wanted to sell merchandise and also needed funding to support the project I was working on. It was only after a conversation with a good friend and business mentor that the discussion of branding LiFe VeRsE as an actual faith-based apparel company began to take life. The idea was to allow consumers to customize merchandise, the same way I’d customized mine, but with their personal life verse. We thought what better way to live out the scripture of overcoming our trials with our testimony than to wear your verse and share your experience and give God glory for His hand on their life.
Aside from being able to customize a garment with your personal life verse we also have graphic tee’s that are pretty dope. The first being the ‘I’m New Wine’ taken from the scripture Matthew 9:17.

How’d you meet your business partner?
I’ll call Drea my business partner. She is the founder of A.D. Productions LLC. I meant Drea while standing in line for church. We were both in line early for the 8am gathering. She was in line ahead of me. While waiting we started talking realized we had lots in common and decided that we would set up an actual meeting to discuss my business needs. That was a few months ago and I have to be honest, I believe our meeting was a divine appointment. Not only did we have education in common [ she substitutes from time to time and by day I teach 5th grade], we also serve on the same team at church.
In terms of the business, Drea really knows her stuff! Drea is my photographer, my content creator, and she manages the marketing. Everyone should get them a Drea.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson I had to unlearn that just because I was ready doesn’t mean that it’s time.
I’d been working on a revised version of a project that I’d produced in Philadelphia, with plans to produce the project in Atlanta. I’d done rewrites, had gotten the okay from readers to approve the rewrites, hired a videographer to shoot footage for a pitch deck to present for potential funds, held castings and rehearsals, hired a producer and even left a deposit at a theater space…only to hear a word from God that what I was so passionate, so ready to share with the world was NOT ready. In fact what I heard was “it’s not a quality baby”–talk about a gut punch. Within a few days of receiving the word and understanding my premature motion I quickly began making phone calls to the cast that the show was off and requested my deposit back. And, oddly enough I wasn’t embarrassed or hurt, I think because I maybe deep down I knew and God’s word was more confirming.
I think sometimes we ignore the voice of God because we are so set in having things done our way. And, when you serve God your way doesn’t really matter all that much. God wants us locked in and aligned with Him. He tells us that His thoughts and ways are different than ours. That we must put our trust in Him that He might direct our paths. God wants to direct all things not just the things we want him to have access too. I believe the minute we put boundaries on God, He bounds our blessings.
I would much rather periodic temperature checks with God to ensure I’m aligned than to have to ask for course correction because I wanted to do it my way.
