We recently connected with K Cornell Kellum and have shared our conversation below.
K Cornell, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
Interesting question, our biggest risk was launching a major Studio conglomerate, and as it turned out, the month before a pandemic. We have had several deals that fell through because of the timing such as an International $600M Funding / Distribution deal but we have still remained true to our goals, vision and focus.
We realized early on that once we started, that we had to continue moving the Studio Group forward and build on what we believed was a new common-sense approach to Television and motion Picture Production.
As time has moved forward, we are now in front of the decision makers at all the Major Networks, Distributors and streamers and getting a lot of positive attention in the Entertainment industry.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I was basically pulled into the industry by our current Studio Chief Executive Officer, Stevie Corn, who wanted to launch a Television Talk Show and as soon as it was developed and picked up by a Network, I came on to Direct and Produce the Treasure Valley View and then the Stevie K Show for the year that they were on television.
I think what I am most proud about that experience was that we didn’t know the TV rules and just created a program that was new fresh and uplifting to those viewers and guest of the community. By just being open and honest with those that were watching and guests on the shows, we built up an audience that still continues on years after we left the air.
We have now taken the experiences for that to where we are heading now but have boosted the level of what we are working to achieve a thousand-fold to create a major Studio and production Group. We plan on not only working with all the Majors but competing with them as well.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I think the event that made a huge change and pivot was one I had my third heart attack and died in the hospital. Amazing what happens once you realize that you are human and can be gone at any moment in time without warning. Getting revived from death is an experience that changes your indefinitely and makes you more focused on what is important in your life.
This has made me a more complete person who now must acknowledge my morality and make all the changes in life to grow as a person, correct my flaws and be more accepting of others.
Since then, I have been able to work with the team to take to Companies to new heights and on the verge of landing several major deals that will elevate the Group away from indie status to one of international visibility.

Any advice for managing a team?
I think that the key for me is to always be open and honest with the team, staff and those who you manage. We have created a family approach and it has worked well for us. Our people are a part of the Ascendent family and like any family, we do have conflict but at the end of the day, we have each other’s backs and work to build everyone up daily.
We make sure that everyone has a voice in the process and therefore no one is left out. Conversely, I don’t always list but I do take suggestions from everyone and make sure that everyone involved gets credit for what they contribute.
