Jynelle , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about how you got your first non-friend, non-family client. Paint the picture for us so we can feel the same excitement you felt on that day.
My persistence and personality is what contributed securing my first client. At the time, the client was already in an agreement with another contractor for three years but after I persisted until I was able to get consistent meetings monthly with the client to present our company’s services and how we can utilize our technology to provide solutions to their operational demands as well as top quality service in the Manpower and Personnel Logistics field, I was able to finally secure a breakthrough and secure a contract with this client after 1 year of never giving up and strategically following up with the client to ensure that they knew about our capability and how quickly we can mobilize our team to provide services to support their operations. I am proud to say that this client is still active with us since that first contract 4 years ago because of our open communication and service delivery.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My appreciation and understanding of Business Management have always guided my professional path. This interest started at the Secondary School level, where I studied Business Studies, and continued as I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management. Furthermore, my Master’s in Management Studies at the University of the West Indies allowed me to connect and see value in my academic and professional experience. This study unleashed my passion for connecting people, culture, and business development.
I started my career at an early age and have held several positions in the field. Each experience was a unique learning experience, and I developed my skills going from HR Assistant, Crew Change Coordinator, Project Administrator, Operations Coordinator, HR Personnel Coordinator and HR Officer. This allowed me to develop foundational knowledge, specialization and competencies in offshore recruitment and managing offshore project operations in manpower. However, my passion for Business Development is made deeper by my natural ability to connect with others, show empathy and support to my clients and my unwavering ‘go-getter’ spirit. The field of operations and client relations is built on a foundation of trust, honesty, and transparency. Through these three fundamental values, I have built professional relationships and earned business opportunities for my team in the Caribbean and internationally.
My career climb started at Ramps Logistics Ltd and its subsidiary company El Dorado Offshore where I worked as a HR Officer in 2018 but because of my previous experience in the Energy sector coupled with my personality, my strengths were assessed to be more aligned to the Business Development Department where I was assigned to the position of Business Development Executive. I was eventually promoted to my current role as Business Development Manager – International Ventures in El Dorado Offshore where I am responsible for maintaining client relationships, securing new leads for contracts and buisness opportunties for us to expand internationally.
None of this will be possible without support, guidance, and encouragement. From a young Sales Executive to this new role of Business Development Manager, I am proud to be mentored and encouraged by Shaun Rampersad, CEO of Ramps Logistics and Sarona Samaroo, Vice President of El Dorado Offshore. Their mentorship is a reminder that finding purpose and value in what you do makes doing what you love so much easier.
I have always had a passion in dealing with people, experiencing the different cultures, understanding different personalities, being that listening ear to provide support to my colleges and peers.
My job entails promoting El Dorado Offshore’s services to clients in the Energy sector in the Caribbean, USA and Latin America to ensure our company has continuous growth and expansion with our headcount, revenue and profitability. El Dorado Offshore is a manpower supply, personnel logistics and recruitment company in the Energy Sector. We also provide payroll services for clients in the Energy Sector by hiring contractors and ensuring we manage their payroll anywhere they work in the world through our technology.
I am able to actively support our clients by providing real-time solutions to their operations by ensuring that we align our services with their needs in each country. My extroverted personality and ability to effectively interact, present sales pitches and secure meetings that often result in us not just obtaining leads with bidding for new business but also winning contracts is what sets me apart from others.
I am most proud of my contribution to Business Development in El Dorado Offshore in the way we were able to secure market domination in the Caribbean and most recently, when we were able to acquire our first contract in USA in 2023 to establish El Dorado as an international manpower supply company.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
“Be yourself, stay the course, block out the noise – the results will always come” this quote resonates with me at each stage in my life and I believe it can for you all as well. Knowing your worth and brushing up on your skills is often said but rarely practiced and I would encourage individuals to truly dig deep in finding your passion. Know that once you land your first job that getting to a point where you feel accomplished will not be easy. Learn to invest in yourself, become emotionally intelligent by knowing what to say and when to say it. Always show resilience, do not be afraid to push the boundaries and take on roles and responsibilities that are challenging. Set realistic goals for yourself and ensure that you stick to getting them completed, not forgetting to be kind to yourself. Be everything you want to be but be eager to learn, but don’t be a pushover, find other Professionals to network and connect with and lastly, stay away from comparisons. In a nutshell never allow your doubts or experiences to define your success story. Embrace the beauty of your unique personality, be your unique authentic self, learn as much as you can about your field and challenge yourself to learn even more other fields that may be out of your comfort zone, that is when you truly evolve as a professional and find your highest calling.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Being myself, promoting digitization of our processes and crafting my sales pitch based on technological changes in our company and the needs of our clients, assessing the opportunities in the market I operate in, being persistent with building client relationships, strategic client liaison to ensure the clients are always aware of our company’s services and how we can support their operations, securing meetings with the top-tier clients in our industry who we want to work with and being fiercely determined to new business is my strategy for growing our clientele.
