We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jyasi Galloway . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jyasi below.
Hi Jyasi , thanks for joining us today. One of our favorite things to hear about is stories around the nicest thing someone has done for someone else – what’s the nicest thing someone has ever done for you?
It’s crazy because this is something that I’ve been wanting to speak on for a while now. I recently found myself wanting to fully immerse myself into my craft, learning every technical aspect to being able to explain my curiosity. I kind of created an opportunity to work at Vision Lights Studio; I had been shooting there for a while now & thought why not ask & see if it’d be cool to be kind of an “understudy” per se. So, I asked & the owners were so welcoming & graceful & a question was asked & I quote “what’re you looking to get out of working here” & it was simple to be one of the best in my craft. The kindest thing about this was everything after becoming part of the team, I pay attention to how people treat their peers & they welcomed me; actively teaching me how to effective & optimal, blessing me with added equipment, but most importantly having like big brothers that I could kind of call on & if there’s a bump in the road I can contact & find a way. The term knowledge is free they depict that with only one contribution, keep it fun. & that is what sticks the most.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi, I’m Jyasi & I’m a photographer based out of Houston, Tx. I don’t really have much to say I just let my wrok speak for itself to be quite honest. I love what I do, I love the opportunities that it has brought into my life & the ones that it will bring in time. Aside from that I’d like to think I’m pretty dope in all fairness & if you know me or will get to know me I intend on showing all the love I can, thanks for taking the time out to get to know me a bit it’s all love.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
You are not the author, you do not need to be so proud, dude you aren’t Superman.
For a while I always felt like I was good at my craft like I didn’t need anyone a teacher, peers, like I had it altogether. Well, that didn’t prove fruitful it shot me in the foot because I was so into myself & I didn’t want to extend myself because I was met with disappointment & kind of shunned off due to the community at times. When in actuality I had it all wrong I wasn’t really serious with it I quickly learned that when you relly give yourself to whatever it is you’re trying to do people see that; that’s when the doors open, we all have one & that’s ego & I had a very big one. The lesson learned was dumb down where you think you should be & focus on where you are at that moment, open yourself to newer possibilities you never know what’s on the other side of it.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
It’s an accumulation of several things to be honest. I want to be able to take care of everyone that’re dear to me sounds cliche but seriously that’s like the driving force, I do what I want & I thrive in that so in my mind I’d like for people to think the same whatever you’re trying to do,; do it & just stay focus tht shit pays off. & on the opposite side of that is my desire to also teach & pay it forward as it has been done for me. As I stated prior, knowledge is free & everyone should be able to express themselves in any way they desire within a feasible manner..
