We recently connected with Jyana Jones and have shared our conversation below.
Jyana, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
At Art The Nail Shop our mission is to create a safe space for women to receive top tier nail services in a welcoming and non-judgmental esthetically pleasing environment. So many of my clients and potential clients have shared stories of going into nail salons and not feeling comfortable because of the way they were greeted or just the way they felt during their service. This is why I created the welcoming environment for clients to get away from the outside world even just for a couple of hours.
Jyana, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Jyana and I’m a nail artist. I started doing nails 27 years ago fresh out of high school. I got into this industry as something flexible to do while in college and it’s grown into something I still love doing and a growing business. What makes me love my job is being able to provide clients with beautiful nails, great conversation (if that is what the client wants) in a clean and calming environment. A lot of nail salons only focus on one thing, fast in and out services. But at Art The Nail Shop my focus is much more than that. It’s all about the details. First, I take pride in my work. It doesn’t matter if I’m doing an intricate art piece on a nail or a pedicure and everything in between. I’m going to do it as close to perfection as I can. Second, I want my client to have my undivided attention. Meaning if they want to talk then we will talk. If they want to just vibe out to the music, then that’s what we will do. If they want to talk on the phone then that’s what they have the freedom to do, it’s their time. And third, I provide a comfortable, clean and safe place for all of my clients. It is very important to me that clients feel welcomed and safe at Art. Through these three key areas are where I’ve built Art The Nail Shop to be a step above in the industry.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
So 2020 was a crazy year for all of us. As a nail tech it completely threw me for a loop. I had always thought about opening my own nail salon but on a much bigger scale. So after salons reopened and I had basically lost about 60% of my clientele I had to regroup and come up with a different plan. The big nail salon plan was no longer my goal. Due to covid and people wanting a safer more intimate environment, I decided to open up a private studio in 2021. This would give clients the private one-on-one services they were looking for after the pandemic. So I put everything I planned for the big salon into a small space. All the attention to details for my clients. From cleanliness and sanitation, all the services of a big nail salon, to a space to vibe in. Social media has played a huge part in helping to set the tone of the environment of the shop. It really is a vibe. Having to pivot and change a few things to fit today’s world has been a game changer for Art The Nail Shop, and the best is yet to come.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Consistency is the biggest factor in building my reputation in this industry. I have a few client that I’ve been doing their nails for 27years. That’s a long time for someone to continually follow you from one salon to another. And I have client that I’ve been doing for 15 years and 7 years and 2 years and a few months. And my clientele list just keeps growing and I believe it because of my consistency. My consistency in growing my craft, making sure I give clients the best services I can, staying connected to social media, learning what’s new in the industry, and striving to be a better tech than I was yesterday.
