We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Juwaun Wilson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Juwaun below.
Juwaun, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I have a couple one I would say is the commercial/campaign I have going with DTLR and another I would say is the upcoming movie I’m featured in that comes out next year. These two stick out the most to me right now with DTLR it’s in stores up and down the East coast I’ve had family in NC/Delaware/Philly/DC including stores within 10-15 mins of me it’s kind of a surreal feeling really. It’s definitely something I’ve always wanted to accomplish to be seen in stores and made it happen it’s like a childhood dream re-emerged. As far as the acting it’s a new territory for me but I’m excited to be working on my big first project outside of doing extra work as background. All of these instances happened in this year alone so it’s all still kind of fresh to take in but it’s definitely staple meaningful moments in my career.
Juwaun, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hey what’s up I’m Juwuan (Jay)!!! I do alittle bit of everything as a creative such as model/actor/creative director/casting director/stylists/content creator and my new title I’m going to add is designer I’m working on my first line of clothes for this summer. I would say my most proud moment in my career was seeing my pictures/commercial in stores for DTLR and having my family and friends send me pictures and videos, it’s definitely been such a surreal feeling definitely almost cried the first time I saw it in person, i was just shocked like that’s really me up there. But I’ve had soo many proof moments throughout my career from walking for high fashion designers in NYFW and runway shows/acting in commercials and movies it’s all been pretty fun. Hmm I would say one thing I think that stands out about me is my ability to bring life to projects and I truly care about everything I’m a part of no idea is too far fetched
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I would say seeing my visions/ideas come to life! I feel like Dr Frankenstein making Frankenstein it’s alive!!! But overall it’s definitely the outcomes and just the experience in itself that makes it enjoyable to me to be able to express myself outwardly thru me being a creative
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Have more platforms for creatives to get paid. We work soo hard to do what we do and create what we create. There’s countless hours/days/weeks that we could be working on one project but all that’s looked at is the outcome not the time/money put into the project compensation would be nice. Also not limiting our exposure with algorithms and things like that. I feel like that takes away from the creative process because now you’re thinking about placement/time you post/hashtags and all of that instead of just putting up your work and people appreciating it becomes more of a number game and takes away from the experience overall
