Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Juwaun Wilson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Juwaun, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I think it’s been me comparing my earlier work until now that made me want to pursue this career. It definitely started off as a hobby for me but the more I put myself in creative environments such as (fashion shows/fashion weeks/photo shoots/content creating/creative directing/photography). That’s truly what drove me and it’s just the freedom of creating art in general for me I’ve always been an artist/creative at heart but it took modeling for me to bring out my full potential
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into the industry around the age of 18. It all started with my senior year photos with my Uncle Jeff at Jazzy Studios he definitely inspired me to begin modeling with his mentoring and creative eye. And that opened all kind of doors for me being a creative in general. Now i currently am a model/ actor/ artist/ brand ambassador/content creator/ and also working on potentially becoming a stylists in the near future. The thing I’m most proud of for me is the support I have from my close friends and family without them pushing me and seeing my potential even when I don’t see it is key for me having a solid group having your back you can truly take on the world.
Have you ever had to pivot?
There’s been a couple times I’ve had to kind of pivot my life as far as career choices and it’s been mostly recently I’ve had a couple opportunities to play basketball overseas but because of modeling been going so well I had to turn those opportunities down just to Abel to attend fashion weeks and photo shoots for clothing brands. I pretty much had to shift focus from basketball to modeling even though I still play my main focus has been taking my modeling to another level and improving
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I would say my first NYFW tryout for Vfiles I had kind of just started runway modeling and i took a chance and went up to NYC for a casting for a show sadly I wasn’t chosen. I was definitely upset feeling as though i wasted my time even trying. But in all actuality I need that rejection to not become complacent in what I was trying to achieve. I’ve always let my downfalls/short comings motivate me to do even greater things in life and that was a monumental step for me changing my mental state from why didn’t they choose me to I’m gonna improve soo they have no choice not to choose me in the selection next time
