Juwan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
After Covid happened I recently graduated from UNIVERSITY of CENTRAL FLORIDA, and could not find a job or position related to the two degrees that I own. One degree in computer science, the other for political science. I had a technician enter my home and helped fix my washer, he offered a position getting training and work directly under Samsung. Since 2021 I have been working with all appliance makes and models, and branching into working with HVAC after obtaining my EPA license.
Juwan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Broward County raised and here to support my community. Times are tough and I know that people can’t always afford the necessities needed to live a peaceful life. I am here to reinsure the people, increasing hope that someone will be there for their best interest. Not only to make a dollar, but to make a great client technician relationship that they can rely on in the later years.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
The big risk. I worked for companies getting $44/hr, the last one hired me from out of state.
With the promises of a higher salary, benefits, and 401k I left my home that I purchased to teach that goal. The company filled for bankruptcy less than half a year in business. All they could say is we apologize and that the employees can file unemployment.
That was the last time I ever worked for someone and it has been the best decision to never go back.
Since then I focused all my skills towards my company, J’s Rasta Repair. With such a distinctive name and approach to the people. I knew this company could stick out and make being a business owner in broward possible.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to learn that no matter how kind you are people will always try to take advantage of the situation, especially if you are dealing with money.
