We were lucky to catch up with Justine Osceola recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Justine , thanks for joining us today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
As a business owner, I definitely feel happy. My rewards from taking a risk and starting a business fully bring on a different feeling of accomplishment. I feel called to create. Even though I’ve contemplated a regular job, I realized I wouldn’t be as fulfilled. I am able to bring a balance to the life I’ve created for myself.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My Name is Justine Osceola. I am the founder & soap-maker of Made By Justine O Inc.
I am a culinary school graduate, which started me down this path. The Kitchen being the heart of the home moved me to create more from that space with love. I realized from my own kitchen, I could create more than just food, but I could create a product that everyone already uses. Soap!
I began to educate myself about the soap process, materials & whatever I needed to know to pursue this venture. Then I just started. I already had my first event set and I was intent on selling my new product!
As time went on and multiple events behind me, my Soap bars began to turn into art. Aromas with intention & soap bases that help heal… I felt called to create & write.
I went from selling soap to making it more personal. I take pride in encouraging self love beginning with our cleansing routine. I write affirmations & prayers to help guide us along our journey to self care.
I found that repeating a supportive phrase helps give us power and believe in ourselves more. Combined with a cleansing self care action we are honoring our bodies!
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Community!
I began at home within my Seminole community. Having supporters and people sharing my information….within the 5 years of my business, I’ve now reach multiple tribal communities throughout Turtle Island. I feel beyond grateful that my family and I get to be of service to so many people.
Have you ever had to pivot?
This was “the moment” a pivot happened. I was leaving behind the kitchen that I knew, only for that same space to be used in a new way. I left behind a cake business for soap. The transition was flawless. Same space new work to be done. It was perfect and I felt it was my path! I thank the Creator every day, I love what I do. I love that I can help and encourage others to follow their dreams.
