We recently connected with Justine Hudecki and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Justine, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory of how you established your own practice.
Growing up, I aspired to become a surgeon. However, upon completing my undergraduate studies, I felt a stronger inclination toward public and global health. My journey in global health led me to live in Uganda, where I found renewed inspiration to pursue a path related to physical medicine. Despite this, I didn’t feel drawn to the traditional medical school or surgeon route. Reflecting on my experiences as a competitive gymnast and the benefits I received from my chiropractor, I decided that chiropractic care was the path I wanted to pursue.
As I neared the end of chiropractic college, I contemplated the type of chiropractor I aimed to be. With various approaches to chiropractic treatment available, I pondered which clinic environment would best suit my style. Initially, I hadn’t considered opening my own clinic right away, feeling that I lacked sufficient knowledge and experience. However, under the mentorship of my boss at Stretch Lab including discussions revolving not only around business, but also around confidence, embracing learning and failure, and taking leaps of faith, I changed my mind. Despite my initial apprehensions and continued nervousness, I ultimately decided that opening my own clinic was the right path for me.
I didn’t embark on this journey alone, and I deeply appreciate the support of my business partners. My advice to young professionals is to remain open to the various opportunities that arise, trust the process, and cultivate kindness. When I reflect on my academic and career journey, I never imagined I would be where I am today. Meeting my first business partner occurred during a period of dissatisfaction with one of my part-time jobs, amidst the pressures of exams and assignments. At that time, I couldn’t have imagined that simple acts of kindness, articulacy, and making a good first impression would lead to my current achievements. Moreover, in my practice, I’ve witnessed how genuine kindness can sometimes contribute more to improving someone’s health, than my physical interventions alone. You also need to trust in yourself and your ability to work hard and figure things out.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Dr. Justine Hudecki. I have an undergrad in Health Sciences, a Master’s degree in Global Health and am Doctor of Chiropractic. I am a the Clinical Director and co-owner of Mobility House.
Located in Downtown Toronto, Mobility House is a multidisciplinary clinic dedicated to revolutionizing the wellness and healthcare experience for Canadians. Our mission is to promote individual empowerment and facilitate access to lifelong healthy movement practices. Currently, our services include chiropractic care, massage therapy, with physiotherapy soon to be added. We have established partnerships with other healthcare practitioners and businesses in the area to offer a comprehensive wellness experience. At Mobility House, we refer to our patients and staff as “The Household” to foster a sense of community and connection. Our goal is to create a welcoming atmosphere where everyone feels at home.
Contrary to popular belief, chiropractic care extends beyond treating back issues. I specialize in addressing a wide range of conditions and injuries related to the spine, muscles, and nervous system. I take pride in not only providing effective treatment to my patients but also advocating for their overall healthcare needs beyond my area of expertise. Our clinic environment is built on principles of diversity and inclusion, and my team and I are committed to going above and beyond for our patients because we genuinely care about their well-being.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Unfortunately, within our healthcare system today, many individuals are left without proper care or fall through the cracks. At Mobility House, we serve as a refuge where we continually champion for everyone to access the care they require. We regularly provide referrals (with follow-ups), maintain communication with family doctors, and collaborate with other healthcare practitioners to ensure comprehensive care for our patients. Our genuine commitment to assisting others shines through, and patients often express feeling truly listened to for the first time under our care. It is our compassion, attentive listening, and ability to take action that is helping us build a reputation in our market.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
The clinic is fairly new so I am learning as I am going. So far I’ve had success with a few things: 1. Lead by example
2. Communicate openly and transparently.
3. Recognize and appreciate achievements; it should not always be about what people are doing “wrong”
4. Encourage collaboration and teamwork; it is important everyone knows we are on the same team and not competing.
5. Encouraging work-life balance
6. Offer opportunities for growth and development.
