Justine, appreciate you joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
In March of 2021, after almost a full year of pandemic energy, I reached my wits end with the company I was working for. I had ulcers for the 2nd year in a row during the spring market, was losing valuable time with my son, and was so riddled with anxiety that I couldn’t sleep at night. I was afraid to leave my company because there was a constant influx of leads, and I was never short of clients. If I left, I would give up the solid stream of business that was always guaranteed to come my way. As a single mom working with a commission based income, moving away from this model was a terrifying thought, and a HUGE risk. However, it got to the point where I was so miserable that I had to throw rationality out the window… my happiness and the happiness of my child were more important. There was a spot for me on the best team in town if I wanted it…but I would have to generate my own business, something I had never done before. There was absolutely no guarantee that I would make a single penny after joining, but I knew I’d be miserable if I didn’t try. Turns out, it was the best decision I’ve ever made. My business is thriving, and so am I. A month after I left, I met the love of my life, created the family environment I wanted, and eventually got married and had another child. My family is more important than work is now…and this balance actually makes me better at my job!
Justine, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Justine Anthony, and I am a real estate agent! I work primarily in the Ann Arbor area, but service most of Washtenaw County. Before I was a realtor, I managed restaurants for many years. I love the service industry, it’s fast paced environment, working with people and most of all, problem solving. My genuine passion for customer service is really at the heart of my business. I sell over $20 Million in real estate every year and work almost entirely on personal referrals.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
In real estate, your reputation with clients is just as important as your reputation among other agents. As much as I am a strong advocate for my clients, I am a rational and attentive party to work with and therefore am able to do more business just because other agents trust me.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
My best source of business is referrals from friends and past clients. So if you’re reading this- I love you, I appreciate you and I NEED you!!
