Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dr. Justine Green. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Justine thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about serving the underserved.
Over three million children or 4.3% of the population under the age of 18 has a disability, yet those with disabilities don’t reach the self-acceptance stage with their identity until their mid- to late-twenties. That’s just not fair. There is a clear need out there to educate children from a young age that our imperfections make us perfect and that we should celebrate our differences. That’s why I wrote the “Completely Me” series, because it’s something I needed growing up.

Justine, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was born with Atresia and Microtia, which means that I’m deaf in my left ear and the ear I was born with was deformed. I had three reconstructive ear surgeries before the age of 9. Using my disability as motivation, I received my doctorate in education focusing on students with disabilities before becoming an inclusive educator and administrator.
Now, Completely Me offers ways of starting important conversations about differences through our award-winning children’s book series featuring real children with real disabilities. We also have a Taste-Safe Sensory Activity Kit Subscription that promotes fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, self-regulation, etc. all while having fun! Check out our video content for kids and adults, and the Completely Me podcast featuring experts in all areas.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
As I stated in the previous question, I was born with a physical difference which made me unique. Bullying was something I faced often because I was different. Over time, I learned how proud I was to be me and how many people I can help by accepting myself as I am. I used my disability as motivation and received my doctorate in education focusing on students with disabilities before writing the award-winning “Completely Me” series that show children that our imperfections make us perfect.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
After working in schools as a teacher and administrator, I knew I needed a change of lifestyle and focus. Although I love children and working within the field of education, I needed to figure out my scope. After writing the “Completely Me” book series and teaching Baby & Me classes with taste-safe materials, I knew that I needed to see big picture and best use of my expertise. We created the Taste-Safe Sensory Play Kit Subscription which comes along with video content for kids and adults. This allows us to bring the Completely Me world into your home, not just your bookshelf.
