We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Justin Suico a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Justin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.

Art has always held a special place in my heart, even back in my preschool days. I was fortunate to have supportive parents who nurtured my talent, enrolled me into classes and provided tools to help me to explore my creativity. As I grew older, my fascination with intricate details only deepened, leading me to quietly observe and appreciate the nuances of the world around me.

Throughout school, I earned a reputation as the resident artist, exploring various creative disciplines like photography, fashion, ceramics and advanced art. Despite life’s twists and turns, art remained a constant companion, guiding me through different phases of my journey.

To most, everyone always knew art and the creative world was the path I was going to walk, yet, it took a while exploring myself to understand which was the right direction. Many heartaches, breakdowns, sacrifices, and losses chiseled the definition of my creative vision. Up until now, everything seems clearer. And I would have never reached this point in my life if it weren’t for taking risks and persevering through countless failures and fears.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?

I’ve explored virtually every creative field since childhood, from comic book art and animation to photography, video editing, graffiti, fashion, graphic design, video game design, creative writing, and filmmaking. The list goes on. As I got older, I took the opportunity to travel the world, honing the art of listening to the finer nuances of life. Gradually, I learned to listen to what resonated with me the most. I discovered that the more I explored the external world, the more I learned about my internal self. Persistence, the drive to improve, and, most importantly, enjoying what I do have made this journey thus far worth living.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?

In my work, I specialize in exploring the intricate complexities of human emotions and the connections we share with each other and the world around us. I’m known for my mixed-media approach, which combines detailed silhouette portraits with vibrant abstract elements, creating a visual narrative that delves deep into the human psyche. What I’m most proud of is the ability to evoke emotion and provoke thought through my art, fostering empathy and understanding among viewers. What sets me apart is my unique artistic vision, which draws inspiration from neuroscience, psychology, and culture, resulting in deeply engaging and thought-provoking pieces that resonate with audiences on a profound level.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?

The most important quality for my success is persistence. Throughout my journey as an artist, I’ve faced numerous challenges and setbacks, but my unwavering commitment to my craft has allowed me to overcome obstacles and continue pushing forward. Persistence fuels my drive to constantly improve and evolve as an artist, enabling me to stay focused on my goals and strive for excellence in everything I do. It’s this relentless determination that has been instrumental in shaping my success and allowing me to make a meaningful impact through my art.
