We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Justin Simmons. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Justin below.
Justin, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
As an artist I was self-taught. My self-teaching process involved immersing myself in the works of other artists, studying their techniques, and experimenting with different mediums and styles. I also sought feedback and guidance from fellow artists and constantly pushed myself to learn and grow through practice and dedication.
Knowing what I know now, I could have sped up my learning process by attending more art workshops or classes at an early age. I understand that these structured learning environments present a chance to connect with other artists helping to refine my skills, gain new perspectives, and accelerate my artistic growth.
The skills I think were most essential while creating my art were mastering different techniques and mediums. By experimenting with various artistic tools and materials, I was able to develop a versatile skill set and explore different creative avenues. This allowed me to express my ideas and emotions in unique ways and continuously evolve as an artist.
The obstacles that stood in the way of learning more as an artist included limited access to resources and mentorship. Without proper guidance and access to art supplies, it was challenging to fully explore and experiment with different techniques. Additionally, time constraints and other commitments often limited the amount of dedicated practice I could devote to my art, hindering my progress.
