We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Justin Reid a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Justin, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Prior to going into ministry I was an insurance agent that was very well off financially. In addition to this I also had a very lively music career and was on the cusp of signing a record deal with Motown Records. But internally, I was deprived of peace and battling severe depression and anxiety.
Then one day, Jesus called me and told me to follow him and so, I left everything behind and followed him. He instructed me to leave my job and immediately go into full time ministry. Now at the time I was in a very luxurious apartment and had a luxury car as well, so the risk was leaving my source of income amongst the high bills I faced every month. But even so, I obeyed and the Lord miraculously covered any bills I had and kept me well off.
That was a little over two years ago. Fast forward to the present and I now have my own ministry which currently has over 38 thousand members. In addition to that I’ve also been ordained as a preacher, working as the current Youth & Young Adult Pastor for Mt Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Jacksonville, FL
Justin, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
The whole purpose of my ministry (The Reid Ministry), is to bring souls to Christ and lead the church into spiritual maturity. That comes through a variety of different things such as preaching, teaching, praise & worship, as well as others such as counseling and mentorship.
The Reid Ministry started as one primary through social media outlets like Tiktok & Youtube, but has now expanded into the physical church community following the pandemic.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Faith in God. Without faith in him, it is simply impossible to live within the purpose God has set for your life. Following God’s will requires taking leaps of faith and a multitude of sacrifices. But the reward is something that last for all eternity!
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I have read and studied the most influential book in all of history. It is a historical document that contains the secrets of the very life we live. It also happens to be the highest selling form of literature of all time. I am referring to the Holy Bible of course.
