We were lucky to catch up with Justin Noppe recently and have shared our conversation below.
Justin, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
The concept of mental skills. It is something that no one I have seen actually does. Skill work in coaching/ self development is about moving from mental health into mental fitness. Just like physical health VS fitness, we can see that health is just the absence of an issue whereas fitness is the strengthening of what we can to build up our abilities to resist issues and become somewhat untouchable by regular problems. Building up our tolerances and transcending issues we may have previously experienced.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
The brand can be summarized by the phrase “calm down, think deeper”.
My background was in applied linguistics and as a language teacher I always saw issues with how the material was being presented and studied, I helped people with the big issues of cognition. The bottle neck of learning was the working memory and balancing that. This took me from language learning into learning in general. Advising CEO’s to students on how to process and integrate information better. Eventually, I noticed the biggest issue there being the management of their own emotions and how emotions generally became a bigger issue than the processing of information. Either emotions blocked them, overwhelmed them, or they weren’t able to connect their more anabolic emotions to the subject matter.
Becoming accredited as a coach, I now take this approach to people leading teams and the teams themselves, offering coaching, workshops and presentations that help people process their emotions, helping them calm down (which leads to greater creativity and productivity), use their positive emotions (allowing more focus and connection) and this is all through thinking deeper about how they relate to the information and what they perceive to be valuable.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
In the early days I was desperate for sales and getting cash flow. I was feeling the anxiety around every call. Developing a good perspective around sales was important to make sure I wasn’t stressing out, and also asking questions of “how can I make this one call not matter?” which meant lining up more calls. This attitude really helped change me as a solopreneur whoi was forever anxious and defeated with “no”s, to one who is energized and looking forward to every call, able to shrug off the “no”s with little effort.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Originally the concept of sales, I thought of it as begging “please can I have some business” or worse, the idea of tricking someone by manipulating them into the sale. Now I have shifted that with 2 different mindsets. The first is about putting up your hand and saying “I am here and this is what I do” allowing people who are looking for you to find you! The second is about value. I am here to add value. So if I can solve your problem without selling you, I will because there is no point, let me add value and you will remember and recommend me, doing the marketing for me. If I cannot add value because it is out of my services, then I will try to connect you with someone I know and trust who is better positioned to add value too.
