We were lucky to catch up with Justin Nealy recently and have shared our conversation below.
Justin, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you tell us about a time that your work has been misunderstood? Why do you think it happened and did any interesting insights emerge from the experience?
My whole rap and entertainment career, over more than a decade has been misunderstood and mischaracterized. I know I don’t seem like a typical rapper. I don’t walk, I don’t talk, dress, act, rap like any of the others. I’ve always been judged. Djs, producers, other rappers and even newly found fans. People would laugh at me…. that is, until they see the show or hear my music. I never changed myself. I never gave up my pride and who I am. I did that because when people told me to switch up. I didn’t want to. So I kept it real and kept it moving. I also hope that no one ever takes that away from me. That trait of mine, is one I will always adore. I always keep it genuine. Whether in my words or in my music. I may be a goofy dude… But I’m a real rapper.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Well, my artist/stage name is “Nealy”. I’m an entertainer. Im a rapper, comedian and actor. My main point of entertainment currently is rapping. My style is what I personally would say is.. very unique. I don’t know how to explain it. My Instagram page is another big point of my entertainment. But the style of my page is hard to explain. Its real. Page viewers feel a connection to it. As if they know me personally. Even tho they’ve never met me. That’s the best way I can explain it. With music, memes, inspiration and great vibes. That’s what my brand (Justin Nealy Entertainment) promotes. While you may not like everything.. there will still always be something for you.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
If you want something, you will never get it. If you need it, then you can get it every time.
Ironically, failure is never having failed before.
I had been trying for years and years. Never gave up. I failed so many times. Then all I did was switch it up. I sacrificed a lot. I lost a lot. I’ve also gained a lot…… but that’s only because I needed it.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
It’s really my Instagram. I got this Instagram page style idea. Then I ran with it. People liked it, so I kept rolling with it.
