We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Justin Mayfield. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Justin below.
Alright, Justin thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the best or worst investment you’ve made (either in terms of time or money)? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
My best and worst investment is my time. I hate wasting it. I know that sometimes we procrastinate, but we have to keep working towards our goals. I’ve invested numerous hours into the studio, craft, marketing, and experience. You only see the feedback from how hard you work and sometimes it can take a toll on you. All the partying and late nights definitely catch up with you quickly. Make sure you use your time wisely and money towards the correct services.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is JMAYZ. I was born in Savannah, Ga and raised in metro Atlanta area. I have traveled and lived throughout the Midwest and the southeast. I got into the music industry when I was 20 years old as a hobby. Just recording and working on my craft. After I dropped my single High Speed, I then realized I need more promotions and marketing services. I linked up with a few people that do blogging and magazines in Atlanta and LA, then I worked to get photo shoots and video content done. Getting with the correct producers and engineers is a big part of my process also. You must have some top tier co workers in this music industry.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
People can share more of the music that they like. Just listening is a help but when you share it with your friends and family it goes a little further. It’s free to do these things and helping artists with their streaming and views is almost the number one thing we need.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building your social media audience is a little tricky. You have to be creative with the content that you are putting out. So that people think you are a brand and not just another person. For those starting out I would say follow all the people you know and ask them to share your page. Then follow people you don’t know because those are the people that will like someone they haven’t heard over someone that’s known you your entire life.
